Hey guys, I'm building a 10k apoc list. And I've run into two problems, beast squads are expensive because of the way the models are, and so are grotesques. I've decided I can live with the little beast dogs being pricey as they come in twos. And I'll be using flying rippers as razor wings.

Unfortunately I need 20 grotesques, and there doesn't seem to be a decent alternative short of the crypt horrors with talos/cronos bits, which are again expensive for twenty models.
Does anyone know of any better alternatives to grotesques? Same with the clawed fiends I love Those models and would like to run them but are expensive for just 10 , I may convert some Tyranid warriors for them.

Thoughts?

Ogres (from OK) with masks (Greenstuff or Talos), Rat Ogres with masks are the most common.

Mine are made from the larger Dreamblade minis, with DE bits added for flavor. (Not painted yet, but PM me if you want pics.). The advantage? Super cheap. Like, $2 a mini.

Rat ogres only come in twos with those other little eats right? Maybe the ogres from ogre kingdoms but not sure if they have the right aesthetics even with conversions.

Are you looking for something that looks just like Grotesques?

Preferably something similar, or decent enough that I could throw a few DE bits on and say its a grot. I find the ogres to be a bit too chubby and not really that menacing

Mine are modified AOBR war bosses and IOB rat ogres.

If I had the money I would get some Warmahordes cephalaphyx creations for my grotesques also...

I wish GW decided to make their toughest DE units more accessible .... depressing.

Fantasy crypt horrors with minor conversion make the best grotesques in my opinion, its what I've been planning on using.

I used Ogrun Warspears, along with Talos, Cronos and some other DE parts to make my Grotesques (sorry if they're hard to make out, but I've only just started painting them).

Please bear in mind that I really suck at using Greenstuff, so others can probably convert them to look a lot better than mine.

I use ogres and IOB rat ogres for grots and for beasts try fenrisian wolves can get around 5 for $20.

Here's mine.

Definitely not as unified as Vipoids, but vastly cheaper. I haven't had the opportunity to fix them, to paint them, or add masks/vials/syringes, but they were vastly cheaper than any other options I could find.

By the way, the last codex mentioned the Haemonculi kidnapping SW scouts and accelerating their gene seed to make them into wolfy grotesques. If you added masks, Confrontation Wolfen minis would be great (and fluffy) Grots.

Dreamblade. It was a collectible mini game that folded. Sites like Troll and Toad or Noble Knight still sell them in singles. They cost a dollar or two apiece. If you're interested, I think I may have doubles of one or two (and more, smaller wrack sized ones in my gallery).
