In a 1,000 point game, which would be a better transport for SW Grey Hunters, Rhinos or Drop Pods and why? I've seen varying choices in different army lists so which is a better transport option?

I say pods, any time. They get GH into the optimum range for either shooting or CC, forcing the opponent to make that decision: Get rapid-fired then charged, or get rapid-fired, overwatched and counter-attacked. Tough call, a lot of the time, so you're immediately putting pressure on.

I'm all about Rhinos, they have way more tactical flexibility (bunkering, keeping your troops from getting shot, mobile cover, increased mobility every turn, can't get countered by deployment shenanigans, etc). People always underestimate them and allow you to get an easy objective or tank shock a squad off the table.

I'd vote rhinos.

Drop pods get you close immediately. This is an advantage over rhinos.

However, they offer your army to the opposition piecemeal. The opponent is able to focus his whole army, on your fractional force, and wipe them out a few at a time.

Drop pods do have uses, but if you are going to be using a lot of transports, then I would say rhinos.

A whole list of drop pod assault units is a flawed concept imo.
