I'm just getting into Warhammer 40k and I've picked Chaos as my army. I've been watching the batreps on miniwargaming for a couple of months now and have put together a 1500 pts chaos list. I've had this list for a couple of weeks but I feel I should ask for the opinions of people who have a lot more experience than me.

Things to note:
I don't ever plan on any tournament play. Just some good old fashion casual play.
I already own all the models in my list, so if it's good, I can get started right away.
I am very reluctant to spend lots of money on a few models, after getting into 40k and Fantasy, my wallet is a little tighter than usual.
As the title for this thread suggests, it's Nurgle themed.
As far as I know, my list is 1500 pts exactly (Which feels so, so, so satisfying.)

HQ:
Daemon Prince
-Power Armor
-Wings
-Burning Brand of Skalanthrax
-Mark of Nurgley-murgley

Typhus
-Typhus stuff

Troops:
Plague Marines x10 (including champion)
-2 with Plasma Rifles
-Champion with Combi-Bolter (point filler)
-All in Rhino

Plague Zombies x30
-Zombie stuff

Fast Attack:
Chaos Bikers x6 (including champion)
-Icon of Vengeance
-2 with Meltaguns
-Champion with Combi-Bolter (another point filler)
-Mark of Nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgle

Heldrake
- Baleflamer

Heavy Support:
Havocs x5 (including champion)
-4 with Lascannons
-Champion has Chain Axe (point filler, yet again)
-Mark of the Almighty Nurgle

Any and all opinions are welcomed and appreciated, especially from experienced chaos players.

Good list, should hit extremely hard and survive really well.

I will suggest a couple of changes though, if you replace the chain axe and both combi-bolters, for 1 extra zombie and then use the 10 points that you have spare for a combi-melta on the bike champ.

Your list will still be 1500 on the nose for that, (so, so, so satisfying feeling) and it also now has that extra bit of tactical versatility.

Good Luck!

Yeah honestly this should do fine in a casual setting. For a first list it is very good, you've obviously read up of this stuff. StrikingScorpion imo has even better batreps than Miniwargaming, I'd check him and his British friends out.

At 1500 points your vector strikes should suffice against the one flier you might see.

For a Nurgle list, you actually have something other than bolters! Protect the few special weapons you have with your life...or the life of your minions.

As an ***EXPERIENCED CHAOS PLAYER*** with 25 or so games played, I always have problems landing my prince, but with your DoN 2+ at all times cover save, you should be fine. Just be careful about landing near ignores cover weapons....Daemon Princes really are not survivable at all. My DoT Daemon Prince once got killed from full health by a single volley of fire from a 110ish point stormtalon. Just remember DoN wasn't always strong, and it won't always be. Next year you might want to replace your prince with something else.

But yeah, have fun

Thanks for the tips and comments guys. One of the big things people have been telling me on the miniwargaming forums is that my DP should without a doubt be using The Black Mace. Thoughts?

If you are not using the Crimson Slaughter or Black Legion Supplements, for sure, yes. You get the D6 extra attacks, as well as fleshbane for 45 points. A steal? Not quite, but still work taking imo.

That's something I'm not too familiar with. What do the Crimson Slaughter and Black Legion Supplements do exactly?

They are supplements to the CSM codex that offer alternative Warlord Traits and Chaos Artifacts to the vanilla ones.

I'd honestly swap the Havocs out for the points equivalent of Obliterators. You have a very aggressive army, and then Havocs that can't move. Codex isn't in front of me so I'm not counting up the points cost of the Havocs, but shooting for three Obliterators with MoN, surrounded by Fearless zombies to prevent something from charging and giving a bit of a Cover Save would work better in this list. Slow and Purposeful beats out static forces any day. The trade off is switching between Las and Plasma each turn, but it does give more flexibility on the field if you come across a Horde army.

His havocs aren't quite worth 3 Obliterators. And with 48" range, does he really need to be able to move up?

With LOS blocking terrain and other ways of blocking what they can shoot at, and Deep Strike armies being able to kill them in a moment when they're unprotected, yes, I'd say they should be able to move up with the rest of the army. If there were more units that hung back, like a tank of some kind, then there wouldn't be as much need but in a wholly aggressive list, the movement option would benefit.

If you can find the points to make your DP a psyker, he can summon stuff like Plaguebearers. Useful and a good way to start a Nurgle daemon army!

Not looking at points but I would do the following.

Give the biker champ a combi melta.

The DP the mace.

Split the Plague Marine squad into two units of six with twin plasma and rhinos. I've never needed 10 PM's in one squad they are as tough as nails.

Swap havocs for three Obliterators, then you have multiple weapon options and can DS if required,

You don't really want the burning brand. Infact he should have no shooting but he SHOULD be a psyker. As he is mark of Nurgle he can Jink for a 2+ cover save. This ay there is no reason to fly. You should be jumping across the board supporting the rhinos of plague marines. This way you can assault and any time without having to waste a turn landing.

That's certainly something everyone agrees on: Replace the Burning Brand with The Black Mace.

I will start by saying I LOVE Typhus but I have started to realize I might like the Chaos Lord with MoN more. You do lose the Zombies but Cultist are equal points and most tables have enough cover to give you at least a 5+ cover save. I know that you lose the FNP but there are so many weapons S6 anyways you don't get that as much. I would Drop Typhus for a Lord and Give the DP a few Lvls to be able to cast. plus you can pull one from the book vice typhus generating all off his from Nurgle.

I am not an expert by any means but i have several games of Death Guard under my belt and am (in my opinion) starting to get the hang of it.

There, you will find Father Nurgle waiting to offer you life in return for your submission. Deny him, and you are mine." — Typhus the Traveller, Herald of Nurgle

New list after suggestions!

Heavy Support:
Havocs x5

I feel that everyone has made some very helpful suggestions and I took all to heart. However, money is tight. One of the big suggestions I got was to replace the Havocs with Obliterators. The models are expensive (money and points wise) so I cannot get them at the moment. If I did have them, I would replace Typhus with a Chaos Lord (which was a suggestion on it's own, and a good one at that) and remove some Plague Marines until I had enough points for three obliterators.

For the most part, I think everyone approved of the original list and will approve this one ever more. Thanks for the help and I'm still open for suggestions!

Also, this list is 1500 pts exactly... Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnngggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

I would personally split those zombies in to two blobs. Just add more PMs with those extra points
