How much/which parts of a librarians armour isn't blue? Or to rephrase which bits should be blue at least.

I know the left shoulder pad is the chapter one, just wondering about other parts such as right shoulder, back pack, knee pads?

I'm painting a blood angels jump pack librarian and wondering which bits i could paint red instead of blue to make him fit into my army a bit more while still staying true to the fluff.

I don't think there's any absolute rule on it fluff wise. It is the Chapter badge pad at minimum, but other than that it can vary from Chapter to Chapter and Librarian to Librarian.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

If you want, just do a little blue trim. Or drop it entirely, in the case of a custom chapter who doesn't need to care about that part of the codex Astartes.

The Space Hulk video game has everything blue except one shoulderpad. This isn't really the most reliable source, but it is a licensed video game so I would imagine it has to be at least within the realm off accuracy.

The easiest way would be to just look at the GW painted models, but of course the Librarian in their online store is an Ultramarine, so that doesn't help at all. Anybody else know official GW art to pull a reference from?

Was about to reference that pic with regards to the Salamanders - they give a good example of the relatively free form nature of Librarian markings.

Back in 1st, Sally Libs were all chapter green with the book on their helmet.

The 3rd ed pic Nevelon posted shows all chapter green with right pauldron and helmet in blue.

The cover of Nocturne shows a Salamander librarian whose armour is completely blue (minus various attached bits).

The picture of a Librarian in Terminator Armour found in Codex: Blood Angels is pretty much all blue, with red pauldrons.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just looking to find that sweet spot between looking like a librarian and still being able to tell he's a Blood Angel.

Gone with the left shoulder pad and right knee as Blood Angels colours. He's got a Blood Angels sword and Jump pack as well so that should do the trick I think.

Thanks again

Why dont you just go with the librarian dread. Only part of it is blue while the rest is red. My flesh tearer librarian is regular FT colours bar his psychic hood which is blue

This is one of the reasons I like the Dark Angels librarian. Here's mine converted to a Mantis Warrior;

With the exception of the Deathwatch shoulder-pad, he has entirely blue armour, but wears robes in the colour of his Chapter's armour scheme.

Ye dare question the blue of the librarian? Seriously though, keep at least part of a librarian blue, always. You'd be surprised how ticked people get about librarians being blue, and not from a fluff point. If a librarian isn't blue he easily blends in with the rest of the troops, it's common courtesy to make your opponent aware of what you're fielding. It actually makes some people think you're trying to hide your librarian if you make him look very different from the norm. They can be unique, you just need to at least have some blue.

I personally like to do mostly blue, but I'm DA and can just use a green and bone robe over it. Bare minimum I'd suggest the psychic hood and the trim on the shoulders, if you don't want to do the whole arms.

As for the jump pack, all blue or red would probably work fine, or you could add bars of color to it, or outlines.

Honestly, whatever it is that you think would look good. Bare minimum 1 noticeable piece of blue though, please.

I'd have thought that the shoulder pads would have shown that they were a librarian rather than all librarians being smurfs.

I can see why I turned to chaos.

(ignore me - I don't know what I am doing)
