After suffering another loss with my Blood Angels I'm drawn back to my new babies, the Tyranids. I've only played four games with them so far but I've won all four! This is probably down to my usual opponents being less familiar with Tyranids. The more I play them, the less effective they will probably become.

Here is the list I'm thinking of running for my next game:

+++ Tyranids - 29DEC14 (1750pts) +++

++ Tyranids: Codex (2014) (Combined Arms Detachment) ++

+ HQ +

Hive Tyrant [Electroshock Grubs, Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Wings]

+ Elites +

Lictor Brood [Lictor]

Venomthrope Brood [2x Venomthrope]

Zoanthrope Brood [3x Zoanthrope]

+ Troops +

Hormagaunt Brood [20x Hormagaunt]

Hormagaunt Brood [20x Hormagaunt]

Termagant Brood [30x Fleshborer Termagant]

Tervigon (*30 termagants) [Crushing Claws, Regeneration, Stinger Salvo]

+ Fast Attack +

Gargoyle Brood [10x Gargoyle]

+ Heavy Support +

Carnifex Brood
····Carnifex [Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms]
····Carnifex [Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms]
····Carnifex [Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms, Twin-linked Devourer with Brainleech Worms]

Mawloc [Prehensile Pincer]

I'm aware that this list isn't as efficient as it could be, a second flying Hive Tyrant would be a huge benefit (consistently my man of the match). My friends don't bring tournament style lists but we are all there to win... I'd say it would probably be a 60/40 fluff/competitiveness split.
I have considered running 2 CADs which would mean each of my elites and heavy supports could be one model per unit but I don't want to be considered a jerk.

Anyway,

comments, suggestions, criticisms and suggested tactics welcome.

Thanks!

[EDIT] Adding anything other than genestealers, a broodlord or more termagants will require the purchase of more models, my gaming budget has been stretched a bit already lately so the expense factor will likely trump massive overhauls.[EDIT]

Well, the only things that jump out are pretty minor...you can sit one Dakkafex out, you get three slots, so you should use them. Personally I would want Hive Commander, so I can Outflank the Tervigon. I would also want a Thorax Hive on it...I agree that your next big purchase should be a Winged Tyrant...shoot down the road you will have use for three or more.

Cool, thanks for the reply.

I don't know what you mean by thorax hive, do you mean fleshborer hive? Can the Tervigon even take that?

I have been using the Tervigon as a midfield beacon for synapse, do you reckon the Zoanthropes could pick up the slack if she was to outflank? The Hive Tyrant is too busy doing his thing behind enemy lines to provide synapse for anyone, my large numbers of screening bugs seem to keep me in control of assaults allowing the Carnifexes to shoot at opportune targets and then charge in where required when the time is right.

My tactics thus far have left my backfield open to deepstriking enemy units and AV13/14 can be a pain.

Thanks for taking the time to analyse my list. I also forgot to mention that I have a lot of rippers from the 60 termagant models that I have but I don't see a good use for them at the moment.

Sorry, sometimes I use too much palaver. there is a Thorax mod that lets you use a Template, for 10 points. I pretty much always use Electro grubs. The Haywire is too good to pass on, and it is S5 AP5? as well I strongly suggest you put it on anything g that can take one.

I like Zoey, and or a Warror Brood for mid and backfield. And it provides a decent ability to counter. I generally try to put so much pressure on the foes backfield, that they forget to pressure mine. I use a Strangle Cannon in the Warrior Brood so they can snipe while they camp in the backfield.

Cool, I can drop a few hormagaunts to add biomorphs to the tervigon and hive commander for my tyrant. I will have to rely a bit more on reserve rolls. I was thinking of using the leviathan warlord traits - reckon I should be going with strategic traits instead?

Personally, I am so fond of Strategy, the others barely exist to me. It is a pretty common tourney move to use a fort with comma relay for the roll power.

I would look at Lodi g the Regen, it is seldom worth the points.

Good advice - she hasn't passed a single regeneration roll yet. - That frees up enough points for Hive commander and electroshock grubs.
