Subject: Are there any alternate rulesets for 40k? Would you play one?

I've always thought about creating my own homebrew Edition of 40k, taking my favorite parts of all the codexes and balancing them out just to make the game that much more deep and flavourful. I'm honestly not a big fan of how "dull" the new dex's feel in both army composition and flavor, but that might just be me.
Do you guys know of any alternate 40k rule sets? Would you play one if it was around?

I've tossed around many many ideas with a friend of mine about using different rule sets. An example would be Tomorrow's War. Not idea for 40K, but hey.
I've kind of wanted to try using anything that says D6, and a different dice. I think we tossed the idea with 2D6, or D10s. I'm not sure how that would play out though.

i already do this with 6th edition as a base with snippets from cities of death, apocalypse and 7th edition with a couple of house rules thrown in for good measure.

have a look at second edition and how vehicle damage was dealt with back then!
and check out the stats of a multi-melta! hope you like D12's

No, not really.
Despite the many mistakes from GW I still trust them more than players.
Especially when it comes down to Codices.

I would.
Though it'd be easier to just play with some balanced fandexes rather than convincing a group of people to try something entirely new.
I've read some pretty excellent fandexes on this site that I'd rank significantly higher than what GW puts out.

I've played In the Emperor's Name (ITEN) and it's more fun than 40k.
I've also played Tomorrow's War using 40k stuff - and Marines play more as marines do in the fluff. Still owning at 3:1 against and still managing to pull of wins at 4:1 against.

I have an elaborate system of house rules that get applied on a scenario-by-scenario basis. But that's not really what you are asking.
My FLGS does 2nd edition and 4th edition nights a few times a month. You might want to start there if you are tired of 7th edition rules.

I've player In the Emperor's Name, it's good fun. Also 2nd edition. Rik Priestly's new game, Beyond the Gates of Antares is shaping up to be a good game, I'm sure 40k lists for it won't be long in the making... ;-)
