If a shas'o/el has drones does it no longer benefit from IC rules re. being targetted?

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

The OLD Tau codex states (under Wargear of the Tau: Drones: Controlled Drones, p 18):

"If [the controller] is an independent character then the drones and the character form a unit but the character may still join another unit."

Has this changed in the new Tau codex? I have yet to peruse it...

So they're a unit.
Hm.
I like this less and less.

I have nothing useful to add.

'fraid so. IC + drones = unit.

Shadowsun's entry specifically says she does not count as an IC when accompanied by her drones. The other IC type character entries do not. That could be read either way.

Besides, Shadowsun has a stealth field to protect her, almost has good as IC status.

@killkrazy, not really, the Tau Codex says "If [the controller] is an independent character then the drones and the character form a unit but the character may still join another unit." not much room for interpretation there

Although I also think they intended the commander to lose IC status when accompanied by drones, I do not think the statement is definitive.

Combine it with the point about Shadowsun (stating that she loses IC status implies that other commanders don't) and there is room for doubt.

They should have said, "If [the controller] is an independent character then the drones and the character form a unit without IC status but the character may still join another unit."

GW should issue an FAQ.

Yeah, I can't wait for the FAQ, they're taking their time about it.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Youi can turn this to your advantage.

Set up your Commander with two shield drones and an accompanying unit. When shot at the drones are removed first. The unit is still at full strength and the Commander is an IC attached to a unit not a 'last man standing model'. This way the two drones will not count towards squad morale. If this is at all unclear seperate the Commander to act as an IC to 'reset' the team size to its original (the team the Commander joined is at full strength) and rejoin after.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Yeah, me too. Hold on, I need to go meet with Mr. Kris Kingle of Claus, Inc. for a minute--he's my 11:15. Yeah, I'm just swamped. I have a conference call with the Easter Bunny and Associates tomorrow, and I haven't even looked at the report on my Tooth investments. I'm starting to think that the fairy who recommended them wasn't the real deal.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias
