Example: A pack of blood claws with chainswords and bolt pistols charge in combat. They have a base attack of 1, + 2 for rage, +1 for charging, and +1 for two weapons equaling 5 attacks per model. Are all attacks resolved as chainsword or are some counted as pistol?
For clarification: The way I understand it, a pistol is a melee weapon in close combat and the models WS is used during the assault phase.

You always pick one weapon and use it for all of that model's attacks.
Also there is no difference between a pistol and chainsword in close combat.

The above is incorrect. Rage modifies charging to grant +2 attacks instead of +1. It does not grant an additional 2 attacks.

In complete disregard to the fluff a chainsword is no better than punching your enemy on the table top, I have ways found it odd that pistols also give no bonus in combat, surely shooting someone at point blank range with a bolt pistol would rip them to shreds more efficiently than hitting them with a stick!

Yeah. Given all the complexities introduced to shooting attacks, you would think the assault phase would be on par. It's not, it's still very much a simulation with little regard for tactical advantages.

On topic...
1. Your bloodclaws would have 4 attacks instead of 5
2. it would not matter which you used to swing with as they are the same in terms of close combat. If any were armed with something such as power swords, you would of course use them. if something that upgraded the strength such as power fists but slowed down initiative, you would have a choice to make if it would cause the enemy to swing beforehand. If against enemy who swing first anyway, no choice, use it.

1 attack base, 1 attack for two close combat weapons, 2 attacks for Rage. So 4 attacks total.
