Hi, I'm fairly new to space marines, but not 40k in general.

could someone tell me the best general load out for a storm raven gunship, not aimed at any particular unit, but just the best general combo

thanks

I think the best options are the MM up front and either the TLAsC or TLLC up top.

IMHO Ravens are best for anti-air dogfighting. This excludes the plasma turret on top. Both the assault and las cannons have their perks, with the AsC taking the lead IMHO, but both being viable.

Up front the melta is the best option. The HBs just don’t do enough vs. flyers, which is the role I prefer, and the TML is not worth the points.

I was going to ask this exact same question. I will agree with the multimeltas, but as to the turret mount, I am clueless.

I agree with Nevelon, MM and TLLC or TLAsC are the way to go. I used to think the Hurricane Bolters might be a good buy, but they really don't fit together with the gunship's antiair function. There are better places to spend 30 pts. As for Lascannons versus Assault Cannons, I gotta give the edge to Assault Cannons. More shots and rending. Flyers tend to have weaker armor, so Str9 isn't as necessary.

A Storm Raven works best as a generalist, which puts the TLAsC ahead of the TLLas. If you go melta/las you had tank-busting properties, sure, but on a flyer that needs to finesse positioning to hit the right facing on armor, etc... and at the expense of then having so few shots that you become worthless versus elite-troops or infantry.

The Assault Cannon still provides anti-air value, adds some anti-infantry as an option, and you're still rocking the melta for tank-busting.

the hurricane bolter sponsons were a viable buy for GKs when you could purchase Psybolt ammo. Now though? I agree with casvalremdeikun - there are better places to put your points.

I've built mine Twin Las, MM, and missiles. Dedicated AT/AA duties. A support Talon for lighter vehicles.
