Hi guys, does anybody have a decent list of which 40K characters / HQ choices are now available in plastic? It seems GW is (very) slowly moving away from finecast.

There is no list, as it would be too long.

And its not "seems" they are moving away from finecast, it was directly stated that they are, as finecast was a failed experiment (mind you, the later casts like tau were very good. but the material as a whole was causing too many issues)

Sorry, but why would a list be too long? According to the GW site, there are only 162 characters anyway, and the vast majority of them have yet to be converted to plastic. If the list of plastic models was too long then I probably would be asking which ones have yet to be switched from finecast instead.

Are you looking for something in particular? A list would be too long because someone would have to go through the characters on the GW store and note down which are plastic, and then report back to you here, and no offence but you could just do that yourself.

I'd personally want to see a list of plastic IG HQ/Characters. I recently started my IG army, and I'm looking for some characters but don't want to pay too much for a metal one.

Should only be the Plasma Pistol Commissar and the Command Squads at the moment. Everything else is still metal. Also only Cadians and Catachans even have plastic infantry squads, beware of the other lines if you don't want to put that much work into them.

Why not just look on the GW site? The entry will read something like "Thiss 10-piece plastic kit makes one..."if it is plastic. I think most or all of the plastic models say this.

I don't think anyone will go to the effort of making and maintaining a list. To be useful, it should also include non-HQ (for instance, Fire Dragons are still finecast, and not multi-part). More importantly, most of the time with heroes, the real question is, "can I kitbash a $3 proxy for a $30 hero?". I mean, most people are not going to decide in whether to play Dante based on what material he's cast fro, but they might proxy sanguinary guard bits, because you can make a reasonable facsimile of him using 1 unit out of a kit that costs almost the same as the solo model.

Even if mere 20% of them are plastics, its too long for someone to make a list of it, because its a list of names you got to screen through, and for no real gain.

Even worse when you consider just how many characters can be made from squad kits/kitbashing.

The description of the model on the GW website says whether the model is Plastic, Resin, Metal or combination thereof (though you normally need to click the 'Read More' button to expand the text).
