Hi there!

As part of the Deadzone Rules Committee, we've been working behind the scenes on some adjustments and improvements to Deadzone and we're at the point where we need your help.

We are aware of some of the issues in the balance of Deadzone, but we would like to have some data to back this up. We've come up with a simple survey that we would like you to use to record a few stats from each game you play and turn them back in to us using this survey form..
This helps us by getting real data from Deadzone as it is actually being played by the community.

If you're playing a game that meets the following conditions:

- Standard 70 or 100 point games
- Between two players
- On a single mat
- Campaign games can be included (so long as they meet the above conditions)

Take a look at the questions, maybe even print out one (or more) copies of the survey to take with you to your next game night and fill them out as you play. Turn in a survey for as many individual games as you like but please only survey per game (the survey includes results for both players so we don't need two players filling out their own data for the same game).

Thanks for your help!

Interesting stuff. I'll have to use it for my next game.

Shouldn't there be a question for who won the game and vp difference in there?

I've won quite a few games where I've lost more minis/ pts total of minis and still won my mission.

I agree there are issues with balance but I'm not sure if just focusing on faction a is harder than faction b is the best way to show changes need to be made. ( I'm guessing you'd just be told rebs arnt about killing)

Everyone dying is pretty terrible in campaigns though. Even if you win, youve still kind of lost.

This is basically the point we're trying to prove, so we can overhaul the campaign system.

Also VPs are more important than win/loss, since it tells us how close the game was, ideally most games should be nailbiters rather than massacres. Agin, something very important for campaign games since all too often a strike team will be wiped and as a result of losing have no RP to spend on replacements.

All but one of my games have been complete massacres. I've won all except that one, which was really close until the end. I was playing Rebs for that one. If it was a campaign, my friends would have been out (sniping the leader on turn 1=ouch). Granted, that kinda thing shouldn't normally be possible (don't let sniper see you turn 1), but those movement cards are great.

I would need more games to compile more data though. Half my games were against new players (and I went as easy as I could without throwing games, using Rebs), and the other half were against people with more experience in the game than me-to the point those guys won't even play anymore (and they're hardcore about winning and finding the dirtiest tricks out there).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Some of my friend's are disillusioned with the game at the mo, rebels and there mission's are completely rubbish, i don't think my friend who uses them has won a single game. Close combat is vastly more powerful then shooting that it's not even funny and you get more rewards for close combat as well. If i roll out my all beast Plauge close combat force I'm unbeaten, i literally steam roll over everything! Tough and v/tough are extremely over powered. We haven't played in a while because the game isn't balanced enough for our liking which is a shame as it has great potential, I'm left with the feeling that it is an unfinished game. The biggest problem with Jake's rules are the complete unbalanced between factions. Ronny really needs to sort out these issues before he run's the next DZ KS which i feel they are going to far far far to soon. You need to let the game settle and sort out the kinks before moving on to expansions. I never even touched the new DB stuff as it is far to overwhelming and don't want this to happen to DZ.

I do have to admit, I have heard some pretty darn bitter rants about the game recently, unfortunately.

It's a pity I can't quite remember the details of my last games.

Really? Because I've found plague not to be so overpowered in campaign. If you're just playing against rebs, maybe...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm totally taking this as a challenge to play Rebs in our next campaign, I think.

Haven't played campaign yet due to waiting for several players at the club waiting for there stuff to arrive (which I suppose theyshould have by now, not been down to the local recently due to work etc). I have played against all factions except The plague and Asterians and have walked over everyone in my path with this force: 1 stage 1, 3 stage 3D dogs, 1 plague swarm and 1 Teraton, or 1 stage 1, 4 stage 3D dogs, 2 plague Swarms and 1 plague stage 2. With the extremely mobile dogs and Swarms and the stage 1s command and cards I can be on the enemy VERY early in the game and yes the dogs aren't great but they have taken down a lot of stuff, even better when I get the ap mutation. The Swarms are a nightmare for anyone to face, THE comes the Teraton or stage 2A then the stage 1. Not only that but most of there missions are tailored to what my beasts do best, kill stuff! I don't even miss picking up crates. I've used an Enforcer faction with just there close combat dudes with the captain and that was the best force I've used for the enforcers.

Will take a bunch of forms along to my groups next game night, there will be about 5-7 games going on so hopefully we can get forms in for most of those.

But as a primarily Rebs player...it is a hard slog. Great to see so much work going into addressing the balance issues. Good luck to you and the rest of the rules committee Squig.

You're not going to detect that properly, though, because Objective VPs are tracked in real time. I can have 8 VPs on the second to last turn and then lose 0-10.

I can appreciate the effort of trying to get objective, numerical data, but I don't think you'll get meaningful information. Plus you know that whatever numbers you show to Jake, he will say it is exactly how he intended it to turn out.

Thanks everyone!

The more games the better... theres a lot of work currently in progress, and as some of you have guessed, the campaign rules are in dire need of a rewrite.
