Hi guys, I am a big Horus Heresy fan, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the Sons of Horus elite troops might have looked like. Like how the Ultramarine ones wear white helmets, the Dark Angels where white, and so on. Usually there is some distictive feature and I was wondering if the Sons of Horus had a certain look.

Many thanks in advance! I am always amazed at the level of knowledge here.

Black armour.
White helmets are a post Heresy thing for the Ultramarines though, they used white crests during. And white armour is very recent for DA Deathwing.

If you're looking for any more fluff on heresy era SoH the first HH book from FW has a load of background on them.

The first company of the Sons of Horus wore black armour. Not really a veteran thing but they used gold dipped skulls as like a medal I think, which is just awesome.

On the subject of the Ultramarines, I like the story of how the red helmets became a veteran thing. Basically in the Night Lords legion, if a legionnaire was marked for censure their gauntlets were painted red (in the Night Lords, censure usually meant execution...) the Ultramarines adopted this, and made a red helmet their mark of censure. During the battle for Calth, one marine who was marked for censure, Thiel, ended up being such a badass they changed it from a mark of censure to the mark of a veteran. Which is awesome

Black was also used by the Reaver assault squads.

Black was used by the Catulan Reavers, because they were part of the First Company.

The 1st Company was split into the Catulan Reavers and the Justaerin Terminators, both of which wore black armour. There were also Reaver squads in other companies, but they would've worn the green armour.
