Recently decided to finally get off my rear and make my Cultist army and i was pointed to IA 13, which is awesome. I'll be running them as a bunch of Forge World Rebels and im fluffing my CSM allies as an Archmagos and his Death Servitors, so modeling advice on them would be helpful. Its an all comers list not meant for a tournament.
Allies
Ahriman-230
10 Thousand Sons-265
10 Thousand Sons-265
HQ
Renegade Command Squad 14 Disciples,Carapace Armor, Master of the Horde, Banner of Hate, command net vox-215
Elite
Renegade Marauder Squad Stalkers, 2 Meltaguns, 9 Marauders-125
Troops
Renegade Infantry 3 Squads 20 Renegades, 4 Grenade Launchers, 2 Autocanons, Militia Training-330
Renegade Infantry 3 Squads 20 Renegades, 4 Grenade Launchers, 2 Autocanons, Militia Training-330
Heavy Support
Medusa Siege Canon Militia Training, Breacher Shells-120
Medusa Siege Canon Militia Training, Breacher Shells-120
Total:2000pts
They run like a standard gunline guard army supported by their artillery, the Marauder stalkers Ouflank and go for the nearest vehicle, while the "Thousand Sons" and "Arhiman" deal with the Heavy Infantry. The various Squads of Renegades will head to cover asap and then hunker down and blast apart whatever gets near.
So suggestions?

Not too familiar with ia13, but I can tell you those 800 ish points of thousand sons are going to get picked off by small arms fire without transports, and will take forever to get into rapid fire range

First of all.. Cool you're running renegades. I my self have a detatchment of renegade i run with my death guards.
Medusas are awesome, i have a couple myself, but to be honest i never bring them, unless i use some wyverns first. Unless you know that your opponent is packing inside vehicles most the time. Wyverns are the most hordewrecking machine in the game at the moment.
Another thing. Vehicles with blastweapons (medusa, gryffon, wyvern and so on), you really dont put militatraining on them, unless you have to. There is one of the Arch-demagogue things where you need it. Scatter hits on 1/3 the times. And milita training only give you an ekstra inch on scatter. Use the points elsewhere.
Last, as changerofways says... you really need to box those sons in a rhino or something. They will get mowed down before you get across the table.

Having spent most of last night trying to make the same kind of list, im on board.
The thousand sons are a weird choice.. short ranged with no transport and very expensive... I would need some persuading on that. Oblitorators would be more useful. Or a DP who could summon.
I dont see the marauders doing much without a transport.
I do like the medusa, but if I was wishlisting Automatically Appended Next Post: I would want some wyverns too.
Also the thing that made me really think about super heavy support, was that a baneblade gives a 12" aura of zealot. Talk about staying power!

There is a legality issue with your list. Cult troops are only unlocked as troops if their Cult HQ (Ahriman in this case) is from the primary detachment thus requiring you to pick Ahriman as your Warlord. This can't happen in your list though because taking a devotion on your Arch-Demagogue requires you make him your army's warlord thus making his detachment the primary one.

Huh, didnt realize that that was a thing, i just assumed that if they unlocked them in the primary it worked in the Allied. Well that sucks.
And i did look at the Wyvern, but im the only one of my friends who runs horde, one of my friends runs 2 Rhinos and 3 Vindicators, so those things will get plenty of targets to pick from.
As to the Marauders, ill run them transport-less and see how well that Outflank works, as ive never used outflank before.
So if i cant use my Thousand Sons, ill just ditch them and Ahriman, and grab some Helltalons or something.

Just take one squad of Thousand sons as elites and put 50 points into filling the allied troop requirement. At least you can still take them then.

.. check the thousand sons thing, that should be fixed in the faq. There really should be no problem having cult troops in allied detachments. The arch-demagogue does have to be warlord tho.

There is no such FAQ. The rules in the CSM codex state that only in the primary detatchment a lord/sorcerer with mark or special character unlocks cult marines as troops.

That is a major downer. Unmarked CSM troops are so poor.

Well ill probably just take a minimum size squad of cultists then and then take the Thousand Sons with a Rhino. Ill just use the cultists for back field objective camping. Arhiman will still be fun.
