Hi everyone. I haven't played since fourth edition but am considering getting back into the game. But before I start planning I want to ask what the most commonly used points values for games are, especially in the UK, where I happen to live.

It'll mostly be a range, which I'd put down as 1000-2000. From my experiences and reading others, that encompasses the overwhelming majority of games played. I'd also be so bold as to suggest 1500 and 1850 will be fairly popular in many groups and stores.

But if you're looking for a goal, 2000pts gives you the ability to field up to that level, and have a few options for any level below it.

Also, there's a growing trend to play smaller games too, in the sub 1000pts, and even sub 500pts with the Kill Team rules.

I would agree, most places where people play 40k the "house" has a favored points value.
I would check-out your local club.
My area tends to play 1850.

We actually have a lot of people that are new to the game, or some veterans that are working on building a new army, so we generally play in the points value of 500-1000. I do get in the occasional 1500 or 2000 though.

We usually play anywhere from 1500-2500 but sometimes up to 4000.

1500 seems to be the go-to points level to reduce most of the craziness you can cram into higher point games. 1850 is quite common, too, as it allows for better competetive builds.

Its definitely a range from 1000 to 2000, but me and my friends usually play 1500 or 2000.

In my area 1750pts seems to be the benchmark, and I used regularly build lists and play at this level.

However in the last year or so, especially with the shift from mono-codex builds, Allies, Unbound etc... I actually think 1500pts is the best level to play at.

So if I am doing pick up games I say that only brought 1500pts.

I used 1500 points for our most common total. We use 1000 points for our multiplayer Free For All matches. We use 1500 for Tag Team Battles. And 2000 points for our single player matches. These are the points total we use for our league games.

In my area, we basically consider 2000 a "full" game, but it's variable how often we actually stretch that far.

A pre-arranged game is fairly likely to get there though.

No idea why people would play more the 1750, unless they are masochists or something. From more then 2000 eldar can fit a normal WS spam and a titan in to the same list or multiple knights along side WK.

2000 usually. It is an entirely different game to 1000 or lower points. Both are good fun.
3000 against friends at home has been good as well. More than 3000 gets silly.
Played 8000 once. It felt like a chore.

Also, beware that things can change. The place I used to play at would run 8-week leagues, that would vary anywhere between 250 point kill teams and 1850 point leagues with apocalypse games sprinkled in there.
