So I've decided to participate on the contest, more for the opportunity and peer pressure of having scenery done and finished than by the competition itself. Here's the original thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/629845.page
My idea is to have a mage tower which blew up/ were hit by something / had something really big escaping from inside. I intend to have 2 visible floors, one made of stairs which will lead to the mage room on the upper floor, hopefully with lots of details. I'd also like to have a smaller side tower sprouting from the side of main tower, but I don't know if this will be possible.
It's made of cardboard rolled around a beer can, reinforced with packing tape and later to be textured using sculping clay. Pcitures and very self explanatory, so let's see them.
And with a coat of PVA I'm probably done for the day, see ya later!
Ooooohhh, that looks very interesting. One small suggestion tho, since you've planned to have two floors of the stairs to be visible...I would have made the tower in two parts so to save some sanity while painting...

Cheers vik
the stairs and the wooden floore are not glued yet and I plan to paint them separately, so I might even have some sanity left at the end of this...
this morning update: the missus offered to help me with the rock texture. as soon as I saw how much work it owuld be sculpting the rocks I've changed my mind. the main structure had clayspread over it and then pressed over fish tank gravel. I'm waiting for it to dry and hopefully it won't fall.
also did some work on the main door and the iron bars holding th planks in place. does anyone recognize the symbols?
let me know what you think, especially on the stone wall for the tower!
Werrrrllll...I have worked with fish tank gravel some fifteen years ago too... Nearly the same project too...a small castle... Unless you use actually real mortar the pva won't hold the gravel in place with a total guarantee... I know you're pretty far down the road already...my personal taste would have opted for the sculpted masonry... I did something from foam recently... If you wish I could post pics of that tower here or you look at my thread/ gallery...
And the last one is an arrow...we can surly agree on that...
