Hi everyone,

Had posted earlier about our trouble winning in larger point values - and got some great suggestions about how to reconsider....

Had much more success in two most recent battles. Tried to use the Aquila Stronghold (with Cannon) with our Orks to draw the opposing army toward us....

Was relatively successful. Made a few mistakes in first attempt against Tyranids (our first time with the Cannon and our first time fighting Tyranids - didn't realize how important to kill of the psychic things quickly). Second battle against Space Marines went much better even though again made a few mistakes.

Here's a link to our battle notes: http://battlegaming1.blogspot.com/2015/01/warhammer-40k-orks-aquila-stronghold.html

Thanks

So, how did the aquila stronghold show itself? Not much info on it in your batrep.

Well, we had a long discussion about whether to use the huge gun or the missiles.

Decided to use the huge gun.

Would say that the direct Impact in the first battle was much greater. Killed LOTS of tyranids. Not sure it made a huge difference in our opponent's strategy - he was going to charge at us anyway

However, impact on the strategies of the second battle was probably greater - because normally we have been picked apart by Space Marines while we try to close in. This time, didn't happen that way. And, it did do some very large damage to some of the missile shooting Space Marines - and also to the Biker Squad.

All-in-all - pretty happy with how it turned out.

(One quick comment is that it was pretty hard to build. We had to clamp it together to get everything to bend into shape.....

I'm curious as to why you had no escape on the stronghold. You could in theory ahve gotten up close a lot quicker or grabbed the relic and retreated.

Yeah - the lack of escapes (meaning doors?) was a goof. Got hurried to get out the door both times and forgot to glue them on. Another lapse was not adding the bolters which would have at least given us a dice roll when the cannon was hit in the second battle.

In the second battle our generous opponent was looking up the relic rules and said he had found that you couldn't take it away with you anymore - that it was fixed. That really saved us because he was about to take it to his side.

Thanks
