Here's some conversions I have made for a squadron. My buddy has huge amounts of Rebel and Imperial ships, so there was really no need for me to buy any ship to play with him. But it always makes the game better when you have something personal invested into it, so I figured I would make my own pirate squadron in preparation for when Scum and Villainy comes out. I already have the ships from the main game, so I didn't want to waste them. So I figured, why not buy a second X-Wing and mash the four ships together to make some uglies?

First up are my uglies. The X-TIE will soon have a partner, and they will be played as Z-95's, as in the fluff they would have similar characteristics and armaments. The other is probably the only Ugly fit for true combat service, the deadly and maneuverable Twi'lek "Deathseed" fighter from the Rogue Squadron novels. I'll be flying my pair as TIE Interceptors, so I am painting the pair up like the Squints from the Imperial Aces box. I have to admit I cheated some- the X-TIEs are not absolute direct conversions of the two XWing ships mashed together, as I needed the engines from the X-Wings for the Deathseeds. So the Engines and wing struts on the X-TIES are actually bitz cut from the X-Wings in the old "Hoth base" model kit diorama that I had from my youth.

These are my more normal ships, that are simple repaints that will be flown with the cards from Scum and Villainy. Everything is getting a variant of a black and red paintjob to look cohesive. Unfortunately my experiment with Tablet-based pics don't show any of the highlighting on the reds.

My final squadron will consist of a scum HWK, two Deathseeds, a scum Y-wing, and three Z-95's (two are the X-TIES). I'm also thinking of painting up my TIE Advanced, the other ship I originally bought for the game, to represent the gang leader flying a rare salvage item, especially with the new buffs for Advanceds on the horizon.)

The tie with x-wing wings, i actually really like. The x-wing with tie wings.... not so much. The extended nose of the craft with the big wings just doesn't do it for me. BUT.... the tie ship with x-wing wings looks phenomenal.

Also like the touchups on the Y-wing and Z95. Overall very nice job.

Lol. That's why they call them uglies! While the X-TIE is an actual ugly design, I have to admit the Y-Wing hull looks better with the solar panels. The existing art for X-TIEs has the solar panels in the same orientation as they are on a TIE, but I thought that looked even more awkward on the minis, so I flipped them horizontal and cut out the triangle to enable better viewing for the pilot.

No militia or defense force worth their salt would ever use uglies, unless they were desperately poor or undersupplied. I prefer to portray that my pirates are the polar opposite of rich groups like the Black Sun, and they use battlefield salvage and ingenuity to bulk out their force.

That's awesome I've always liked the idea of "Uglys" from the books.

Nice to see someone make them. Look neatly done too

I'd like to see a xwing/squint cross.

I think a YT-1300 body without the cockpit, joined with the Lambda class shuttle's nose at the front would be a cool one to see too.

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.
