I am in the process of piecing several kits together to make a large daemonically possessed cultist swarm, which will double as Daemons and Cultists, depending on need.
From left to right, these are the kits that are included in each of those.
1.
Scions
Daemonettes
Wyches
2.
Bloodletters
Eternal Guard

I think I've gone too far. Painting these will be a nightmare. There are over seventy half built mutants.

There is no such thing. Seriously though these are really cool and although painting might take a while, you will have an entirely different and unique force to put on the table. I say go for it!

Very cool. I've done something similar for my reneguard army. I used marauder, beastman, cultist, skaven and cadian parts.

I like what you've done. Really like number 3.

Number three is one of my favourites too. Some of them will obviously look better and more cohesive in the end than others, but that's just the way of it, isn't it?

And they're Chaos mutants/cultists/daemons, is cohesive really the most important thing for them? Is it so bad if they aren't cohesive?

Yes, but there is a difference between "ragtag bunch" and "random group." I'm hoping to achieve the former obviously.
