At this time, is there any reason NOT to field any of the three combined lists, even if only using units from one faction? For instance, if I have a Dark Elves army, is there any reason (aside form wanting to use special characters such as Morathi) to NOT field it as a Host of the Eternity King, instead? Or to field my Warriors of Chaos as a Legion?

If you have a Wood Elves army, you won't be able to use "Ambush from the World Roots" meaning that you do not gain your free Woods.

Other than it replacing some arm wide rules with others I don't see why not. I really only know the Undead Legion list. You do miss out on a few special characters using that list, but unless your really invested in one of them, go combined.

Right... My basic question is, unless I want to use a special character not in the new list, why play Dark Elves when I can play Host of the Eternity King and get martial prowess for free? Why play Warriors of Chaos when I can use a Legion and get the new Reign of Chaos table?

There is no other reason than to use special characters / the wood elf rule.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

I'll be 100% honest: if you play elves, other than some desire to play Mono-Flavor of elf, there is no reason not to play Host of the Eternity King (unless there is a special character you want access to).

Host of the Eternity King gives nearly everything in the list Murderous and Martial Prowess (re-roll rolls of 1 to wound in melee, and attack in an extra rank all the time), which is hideously good. Doncha hate it when you're white lions roll a 1 to wound ? Welp, now they re-roll it.

So again, unless its a personal preference thing, or access to a special character, there is really no reason to play non-host of the eternity king. It gives you the most access to all the goodies that aren't special characters (i.e. - all of it!), and they're all hopped up on Prowess of all shapes and sizes.

Sure if you play woody heavy, you don't get your free woods... but mein gott... that is such a small price to pay to have access to all the non-special-character selections from all three books.

Can't speak as much for the Legions of Undead or Chaos quite as much, although beastmen got a hearty shot in the army by giving them access to marks, etc.

Well im in more of a friendly (small) metta and it seems a little op to me that all of my HE get murderous prowess for free. Or that I can take all DE as core for my HE.

I have used the aotek list with mixed HE with DE.
I have also ran a HE army (not aotek) lead by Malekith. So big scary Malekith with non murderous HE.

If its appropriate for you to have free bonuses against who ever it is your playing, go for it. If they (somehow) dont know about end times (or just arnt hip) then just use regular rules.

The new special rules are just an intensity dial for fantasy.

All of the things. Most of the time.

I get what you're saying about the small casual meta... i'm in mostly the same boat... my main playgroup is smallish, and i refer to us as "casually hardcore". We're all reformed ultra cutthroat hardcore players from other systems of games that now play WHFB for the fun of it.

That said, you might feel slightly less bothered by United Elves if someone brings out Legions of Chaos or (worse) Legions of Undeath.

But i agree ; nothing, literally nothing, about End TImes forces you to play mixed elves. You can take any of the host rules and relegate yourself to ONLY mono-elf allowable for that host from End TImes. Or you can still 100% legit play mono-elf from army book only. Both approaches are legal.
