So I know there is a MTG thread going on, but this is kinda separate and I'd rather not interrupt their conversations and chatter.
So last I played magic was back in the early part of the Time-Spiral block, before that I'd gotten into it during the Ravnica block. Since then I've not touched it and having had a little renewed interest it seems its gone through a lot of changes since then! Both in mechanics and how the game is played out and in what is out there.
It seems that the general "last two expansion blocks and single core set" is the standard format still used; and being as its kinda a midpoint between core sets at present (released in July) I suspect the Tarkin expansion is what I'll jump into (esp since its last wave in March hints at lots of dragons!).
However I believe lots of mechanics have changed names since the older days - anyone know a good reference for a quick update on those changes?
Also there appears to be the new commander mode appeared on the scene which I'm not 100% sure about. Seems to be one oversized card (?) plus 99 card decks thereafter; with each card being difference. However I'm confused as to how this fits into the general release of cards from MtG - is it only the pre-built decks they sell or custom decks?
Anything else I should be aware of before potentially allowing thus near drug back into my life?
Also why has Ultra Pro not got any more albums with dragons on the front (barring it seems, one from the Ravnica restart which is horribly overpriced by some random UK store trying to cash in on rarity)
