This is a quick poll for Tau Empire players to determine how abused the Tau Empire codex truly is.
There is a thread on these forums discussing the potential nerfs needed for the Tau Empire codex.
Said thread has boiled down to two things in the Tau Empire codex that need addressing; Spamming IA Riptides and HYMP Broadsides. (As far as I could determine)
While this poll will not be 100% accurate (obviously), it will shed some light on the number of players on these forums who abuse the codex.
This is my first time making a poll, so forgive me if it's lacking. Anyone contributing to the poll should be able to pick multiple answers.
Obviously this will not work if the contributors are not sincere. Please be honest, and thank you.

Neither of these options are cheesy, they just need a few tweaks in regards to points and they are perfectly fine, for example:
-The Riptide is perfectly balanced for what you get, what needs to be changed is the price of the Ion Accelerator, at least by 15pts.-20pts. Other then that its easily comparable to the Dreadkinght and Wraithknight in regards to abilities and points.
-The High Yield Missile Pods on the Broadsides again are not cheesy, what makes them so powerful are the other things you can purchase (such as Markerlights) that buff them and make them deadly. However in order to do so you are investing a good chunk of points into a single unit to make them effective.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

The thing is that polls like this always attracts votes from people who don't lay the army just so they will sew the results.
I bet that most of the multiple IA Riptides and multiple HYMP Broadsides answers come from Tau haters who have never played them.
Finally, do you mean in competitive or casual play?

I voted 0 riptides and HYMP broadsides. I do have nine of the fething things though so I could end up building a single squad with HYMP at some point. That's probably exactly what's happening. There are a ton of results and practically no comments so far.

You dont really dictate a points value here so its hard to tell what the answer will be. If all someone plays are apoc games than two IA Riptides really isnt cheesing it up at all.
For me I currently play 1000 point games, and use a single riptide with HBC, his function on the field is literally to survive turn one so that I can deepstrike my crisis teams turn two.

Haha, all good points. I made this poll last night after having a lot of wine. Also it's my first one.
It was just meant to be a rough representation of how many people actually abuse the codex. Obviously it's not going to be 100% accurate and I only gave options that were the biggest violators according to other threads.
The poll was meant for casual play and in the points range that would make these options too powerful, so anywhere up to 1500-1850?
Also, I use the term "cheese" very loosely.

Are my pulse carbine Fire Warriors cheesy?
How 'bout bringing 3 whole markerlights in with 700 points?
Or a Crisis Suit with 3 weapons?
These questions are very meta dependant.

Are you a Tau player? Just curious. And I run 1-4, including all the variants depending on the setting.
I think a vote on spamming grav bikes, Knights, wave serpents, and ask the other commonly spammable units should be done too... In the sake of fairness. Not much needs to be done to the Tau Codex, notice it's not consistently winning now they adjusted the ally matrix.

I build fluffy armies, so I have one broadside unit with HYMP, but I like the look of the rail gun more so I will probably never buy more then the one.
I also don't use riptides because I don't really like them, but to each their own

When I play Tau (see sig, not that often) it tends to be 1 riptide and one or 2 units of missilesides. After that I get fluffy and fun, but, to be fair, I don't run Tau in tournaments.

I sadly love my Riptides, whilst I have yet to field more than one I own 3. I love their mobility, the way they look and building them up (especially the Forgeworld ones). I'd love to see them take a points hike or minor nerf so I could field more than one without feeling bad.

The thing is that IK and Grav Centurions are from the IoM faction and everyone knows that they can't be cheesy <sarcasm>.
Tau 'cheese' is nothing compared to their cheese but you hear loads about our 'cheese' because we are the minority, and 'different is bad' (hence why Tau always get hate no matter their competitiveness).

For what its worth in my 1000 point tau list there isnt a single markerlight and whilst the riptide is present its in its "worst" form (HBC). I still get the occasional complaint about how OP my riptide is (he has yet to earn his points back in any of his games) but I attribute that mostly due to the fact my opponents are so damn terrified of it that they are ill prepared for my crisis teams deepstriking around them a burning them off the field with double plasmas. If anything the internet fear of the riptide actually makes the rest of my list that much more survivable, the enemy waste much of their firepower on a 12 shot bs 3 rending platform and ignore the sheer amount of AP2 and 1 deepstriking around them.

I have a small Tau army painted up, yes. I haven't actually played them yet because my gaming group is still in the beginning stages of playing. Right now we're working on painting enough terrain to make it fun.
What I do have painted up is as follows.
1 very expensive upgraded commander
1 ethereal I'm going to count as aun'shi
1 Fireblade
3 crisis suites with plasma and missile pods
3 stealth suites with marker drone and fusion blaster
21 fire warriors
8 pathfinders
4 gun drones
1 HRR Broadside with 2 missile drones
I'm also working on a fusion piranha right now
My army is totally hobby based. I just got into modeling a year ago so I started painting things I thought would be easy.
I don't want people to be offended by this poll, I personally don't care how anyone play their army.
When I read threads about nerfing tau, there are people who claim every tau player spams these units. This poll is to see how right they are.

I'm a fan if the Firebase Support Cadre. 1 Riptide, 2 full strength Broadside squads. More than that and you are investing too many points in too few models.
That being said, a codex ago I wasn't shy about having 9 twin-linked railguns in my list.

I am a casual player whom plays an army of one Riptide and zero Broadsides. I run only one Riptide as it gets enough flak for existing. Anymore and my army might just be straight banned from the group! ha
Personally, I would run Broadsides as I love the idea of varied suits in my army. Yet, I am not paying $50 dollars A MODEL for these damn things. I understood Warhammer was an expensive hobby when we got into it, but hell that seems beyond reasonable to me when I need a minimum of three and a cadre formation requires SIX.

Let's create a Tau hate thread.
This thread is just awful.
You're suggesting in the title all Tau players are cheesy but there are levels based on how many of 2 particular items we use.
Thanks for creating it

Don't worry, so does everyone else.
I'm not sure why limiting yourself to a single broadside squad is more "fluffy" than taking two or even three, though. This whole "I can only take one of everything" mindset isn't "fluffy", it's just...pointlessly restrictive. It doesn't really adhere to actual written fluff a lot of the time and in some cases can even go directly against it.
