Concept is simple. Take advantage of the inherit zealot nature of the Word Bearers. Everything can and will move forward (barring needing to shoot a plane down with a Dread). Apothecaries join either Tac unit, Lorgar and Erebus join the Dark Brethren and picks Invisibility to make Gal Vorbak tough to hit and everything just lays bolter fire down. Erebus is there because a) he fulfills the Chaplain requirement, b) he has Dark Channeling to bolster my Tactical Marines and c) I like him

Pick the list apart at will! It's not meant to be WAAC but I'd like feedback on if there's a semblance of a good list.

Also, I've 9 points left over.

Well o run Lorgarand confirm he is a beast. (Except when he perils himself to death)

First the bad news, lorgar is a lord of war, not a hq, so you haven't fulfilled the word bearer restriction of two hq.

The rest looks solid enough, suggest you take levitation to get extra movement on the gal vorbak

Erebus is alsp a diabolist so you do qualify for the dark brethren rite of war . Its not great but instant death perils is pretty cool, especially against some 40k armies.

Agreed. Lorgar is merely so-so for a primarch (an important qualifier), but Lorgar Transfigured is immensely dangerous.

40 Tactical Marines gives you a decent assault/small arms core, especially with Dark Channeling and apothecaries, and with Legion Astartes (Word Bearers) and Lorgar on the field, the army might as well be unbreakable.

The problem, as noted, is that you need two HQ choices. My recommendation - more because I really dislike Erebus! - is to swap him out for a Chaplain Consul and a Diabolist Consul. That's only 170 points, leaving you with 34 points to arm them (bearing in mind the chaplain already has a power maul).

I probably wouldn't attach the chaplain to the Gal Vorbak, as Lorgar does everything he does - hold him back and attach him to whichever Legion Tactical Squad doesn't roll Zealot for its Dark Channeling result.

I dont think Lorgar brings hatred. So the chaplain does have a place by his side, but yeah probably better in one of the blobs.

Its pricy but I do like the lvl1 psyker upgrade.

Ah jeez, I guess I interpreted the rule wrong in that I thought Erebus satisfied the "Required Chaplain" rule. Re-reading it, I see my error.

I'm of 2 minds attaching a Chaplain Consul to a Tactical unit. I mean, I get it. Rerolling a billion attacks is sick. Thing is, if one unit has the advantage of Hatred, that unit has a big target painted on it. With Lorgar's unit not only does it guarantee that when it hits something, that thing is dead, but it also helps take pressure off the Tactical Marines.

I WANT people shooting at the Gal Vorbak. With Invisibility, high toughness and high wounds, the unit can take a beating and still dish out pain. One Vindicator can end the whole party for 20 Marines.

I'll have to play around with some points, though. My main objective would be to get a 3rd Apothecary into the Gal Vorbak but I'd need to find a few more points.

Thanks for the input!
