So I finally took the leap and just purchased a Land Raider. I just got back into miniatures this summer. I used to paint WWII minis when I was a kid.

I picked up a Grey Knights Redeemer from Forge World and I have a second Land Raider included in the GN Nemisis Strike Force kit I just purchased.

I picked up GN doors and I'm thinking of getting the Psycannon upgrade... From Forge World. Both for the vanilla Land Raider that comes with the Nemisis set. I'm wanting to upgrade the vanilla LR to look similar to my Redeemer. I'm also wanting to customize both extensively with tow cables, tow hooks, standard tank tools like a pick axe, shovel, ect, flexible realistic metal antennae, sandbags(I may just use greenstuff) and anything else you'd find on the exterior of an APC. I've already picked up some extra Land Raider track links of various lengths off eBay which I plan to place on the exterior similar to the way tankers did it during WWII.

I do plan on magnetizing the weapons that come with both kits. I'm not too worried about picking up additional weapons systems to swap out until I do more homework and see my Land Raiders in action.

A few questions:

1. Does the Land Raider reinforced armor kit by Forge World include the armor that covers the tracks on the upper portion of the front hull? The description is not very specific. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Vehicle-Accessories/LAND-RAIDER-REINFORCED-ARMOUR.html

2. Any websites that have similar scale tank/APC bits?

3. What scale models (ie Tamiya armor) are similar scale to 40k vehicles?

4. Any other suggestions?

Scale is a tricky thing, going between 40k and real world models, as GW uses 'heroic scale' and is desiged to fit on a tabletop. Accessories are generally massive, compared to the vehicle's footprint, which is itself far more squat than would likely be practical. 1/35 scale accessories are generally recommended - I believe Tamiya has one of tank stowage (tools, Jerry cans, etc.) that might serve.

Tow cables might be better built from scratch - if you can sort out the eyes, you'd just need to twist a bunch of fine wire together for the cable. Heavy fishing line makes for a decent whip-style antenna, with the added bonus of reilience (it will bend, not break). There's a Dakka article on historical model scales for conversion that is worth a read, if you want more info.

Yes, 1:48 is technically closer to 40K scale, but due to GW's chunky 'heroic' scale and detailing, 1:35 accessories usually are a better visual match for 40K.

Also check out your local model railway shop - although the most common scale (HO/OO) is technically far too small (1:76/1:72, I think), some generic items like boxes and crates look fine at 40K scale. Prices vary wildly (compared to model tank stuff, or 40K stuff), but it's always worth a look.

Thanks guys. Can anyone recommend any mega tanker/armor sites online that has tons of 1/35 scale bits?
