I just recieved a beautiful Baneblade in a trade. My question is... How do I use it? I don't have many other IG things (I sold almost everything).
In addition, are there any problems I'll run into fielding the Baneblade?

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

You have two-ish options.

1) You need to put together an IG Combined Arms Detachment. To my knowledge this is the only full detachment that includes a Lord of War slot. The smallest IG-CAD I know of is two veteran squads and a commissar. You can then add other detachments to your army from other books.

2) Play an unbound list. You will give up detachment specific bonuses but get the option to run the baneblade with out any other IG models in your army.

3) I list this tentatively as I don't know if it even exists as a real option. Find a formation that includes the baneblade and run that formation in your army. To my knowledge there are some Apoc formations that include baneblades, as in more then one, and you only have the one model. Also you really really really should make sure your opponent is OK with using Apoc stuff in standard 40k. Although some players will allow it, others, many others, will have issues with that. I don't know of any standard 40k formations that include a baneblade and I can't image they would be cheaper then option 1 anyway.

Personaly, I find unbound lists to be a lot of fun but I play a lot of doubles and maelstrom games and objective secured tends not to be as important.

What faction do you normally play?

I usually play Necrons.

Comissars won't count as your HQ choice. The cheapest HQ is Company Command Squad for 60pts.

You can get a full CAD of renegades and heretics for 105 pts. And they can take a baneblade (which also gives those useless guys in the CAD zealot.)

You could always do a lord commisar, or is that more expensive?

Lord Commisaars are absolutely a HQ choice, and cost about the same as a barebones Company Command Squad. You might take a Lord Commisaar over a CCS if you want a cheap HQ and don't plan to be using many Orders (like say your Vet squads are Armoured Up inside Chimeras, since you can't issue orders to embarked units).

I noticed some people mentioning formations/different detachments, where do I find these? In the past I've seen a few people referencing Forgeworld in regards to detachments/formations, but I could never find them.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.
