Hey guys, I've been playing 40k for a little while but I wouldn't say that I am a seasoned player by any means. I am tihnking about possibly building an Eldar army or trading some of my current models for one if possible. I threw a list together and wanted to get some advice on it as I have never played against anyone who plays Eldar and all I've had to go off of are battle reports and youtube videos. Anyway, if you guys could give me any advice on this list I have I would appreciate it (Be gentle):

1500 pt Eldar List:

HQ:

Farseer - Jetbike, Twin-linked shuriken catapult, shard of anaris, singing spear

Avatar of Khaine - Wailing Doom

Troops:

8x Dire Avengers (inlcluding exarch) - shuriken catapult, plasma grenades, Exarch - shuriken catapult, plasma grenades, Wave Serpent - holo fields, serpent field, shuriken cannon, twin linked cannons

8x Dire Avengers (inlcluding exarch) - shuriken catapult, plasma grenades, Exarch - shuriken catapult, plasma grenades, Wave Serpent - holo fields, serpent field, shuriken cannon, twin linked cannons

10x Storm Guardians - chainswords, shuriken pistol, plasma grenades

Fast Attack:

8x Warp Spiders - Deathspinner

8x Warp Spiders - Deathspinner

Heavy Support:

Wraithknight - Two Heavy Wraithcannons

Thanks for the help.

If you aren't giving the exarch any upgrades the 10 points is kinda being wasted. I would suggest dropping them and spending the points elsewhere.

Also footslogging storm guardians will die before they make it across the board and be of any use. Unless their going to hang back in your deployment zone and countercharge deep strikers and drop pods, and even then they will likely die to small arms fire before they can without warlock support for conceal. I suggest dropping them for a unit of bikes to escort your farseer. If you also drop the naked exarchs you can get two units of bikes (or a single group of 6)

Your wave serpents need scatter lasers, not shuiken cannons. Twin linkes everything else.

Should I keep the Shuriken Cannons on them as well?

I would keep them

That puts me over by 9 points, any suggestions about what I should remove?

Edit: Completely ignore that, I read it wrong lol that puts me at exactly 1499/1500

Yes, the extra 3 shots really help. Meant the twin linked shuiken cannons.

Drop the Avatar to take more bikes. He moves way too slow for this list.

Is he worth having if I change the list to accommodate that? I really like the idea of using him but I don't want to screw myself by taking him when it's not necessary.

Well, I'd take 10 Dire Avengers in a Serpent wit tl scatterlaser, underslung shuricannon, holofield.
This is the way to go in terms of pt cost and effectiveness.
Some players like jy2 might suggest 5 men DA units.
But this is more for the advanced player.

The Avatar is questionable in a fast moving army.
I'd drop him. What other units do you have?

I haven't bought anything yet. I'm proxying to determine whether or not I'm going to buy the army. Like a said, I know nothing about eldar so please feel free to suggest any changes you think are best.

If you wanted to keep the Avatar, you would need to support him with other slower moving ground units using a hammer and anvil or phalanx type list. Beefy units as your center, faster moving units that support it.

Warwalkers, large/3-4 squads of guardians with warlocks, wraithlords and wraithguard make for a good phalanx block.

The old "Elf-zilla" as it were. Avatar, 2-3 wraithlords, and ground troops supported by Farseers. Bikes, jump units, and serpent bound troops in support.

an example of "supporting him with other slower units" that partninja states above would be to use the avatar's 12" fearless bubble to march the avatar upfield with two 20 man guardian phalanxes, adding in two warlocks for conceal and you have a really nasty area control/denial over a huge part of the table. It's not the most nasty choice but it's a way to be friendly-competitive and still take an avatar. 40 shots that rend on a 6 is nothing to sneer at: even as over watch Fire. And the avatar is there to smack anything.

Shame that this type of army is so bad

Maybe compared to davu (read tourney competitive) verses other competitive lists. It works just fine against other casual lists.

KingKozuma, what type of list are you trying to make?

My point being it isnt a competitive option. And I only rate lists on a competitive level.

I think if you want 10 models just use guardians instead of dire avengers. For the points, 10 guardians is a deal. Obvious drawbacks, but, 20 bladestorm shots at 12" is sitituationally much more effective than 10 at 18" (5 DAV).

I don't run all guardians, but often I'll have 2 min DAVU and one min guardian squad.

I agree it's not a great list, and it is a shame.

The avatar is really cool.

I'm trying to make an army effective against a DA terminator army in land raiders and a list that is fun to play as well. I won't be playing any tournaments, this is strictly a play with friends. The friends just happen to be very competitive.
