Hello everyone, this is one of my first attempts at painting tyranid models as I'm new to the hobby.

Please could you let me know what you think about it and maybe some tips on how I could improve on the model,
Thanks all

Nice model, but if eyes, teeth, fleshy bits, joints, and bits were painted it would be better. If you don't know how to, you get a tiny drop on your brush and just "touch" the part you want to paint.

You are off to a good start! It looks neat and tidy. Just try adding some details, like teeth and other small details. It adds a nice contrast to the model. You could also try to add some shade and highlights to the scales.

As said above by other posters, off to a good start, if you want more detail then getting some paint onto the little fiddly bits on the body and head is needed.

Looks like you have already used a wash on the body, so I'd suggest getting a dark wash (black would work well I feel) on the red carapace bits to shade the plate joins, and then maybe do a bit of edge highlighting just to bring some good contrast to the red, or could maybe go for a mottled look? Depends what you are after really. What I know is that when I added some wash to shade the carapace joints on my models it made them look so much better.

Good luck, and welcome to the Hive!

Here is what I have done to it, hopefully it has made it a bit better.

Added colour to the carapace, brighter colour to both the teeth and eyes and have also added colour to the tongue.

That's much better - for gaunts, that's a good paintjob that'll look awesome when the whole squad's there. When you get to bigger models you can get the niggly little details sorted but that's a good quality tabletop paintjob right there.

Thanks for the tips everyone, will help me a lot. Only problem I have now is the Skull white primer, most of the time when I use it, it seems very watery and does not cover the whole model very well, any ideas?

Is it a brush on or a spray primer?

That seems to be typical of a lot of white primers I get.

Good. Just make the eyes stand out more and add in as much detail as you possibly can.
