Ey b0sses.
I have a question, so I am gming a Dark Heresy campaign and one of the players, (new to the setting) wants to play an assassin. How old would a vindicare assassin be in the assassinorium if he was at about 500 xp? Would that qualify as a vindicare? I don't do a whole lot with the inquisition so I wanted to know what you guys thought.

You seem unaware of how the Officio Assassinorum operates.
Assassins belong to a specific temple. They do not have ranks.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Officio_Assassinorum
The Officio recruits young people from the Schola Progenium and they are trained to be which ever type of assassin they have aptitude for. They then remain as that type till they die in the line of duty.
Assassins are really no longer human. They are living weapons. Implants and genetic modification making them perfect at their specific task. Vindicare are peerless Snipers, Calladus are expert infiltrators able to impersonate any individual, Eversors are berserk killing machines, Culexus can only be made out of humans with the Pariah gene that makes them vicious anti-psykers, etc...
Assassins are tools used by various Imperial organizations and individuals. They're not like a Ninja clan or anything.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

There are ranks used within each temple, but they're irrelevant to anyone outside of that particular temple's political structure.
The assassin specialization in Dark Heresy is not a temple assassin. It's a normal human hitman, of which there might be millions across the galaxy.

However, when they get to the Ascension Ranks, then they get an option to go to one or another of the Assassinorum Temples. Either the Vindicare specifically or any one of the Death Cults.
As far as the regular core-class Assassin? Shoot, they could be Matilda from Leon, The Professional for all I care.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

This isn't completely true. While they are modified to be perfect at their job, they aren't simply tools or weapons. They still have a very human personality and uniqueness that makes them individuals. The various Assassins in Nemesis had a ton of character, and were all capable of understanding and dealing with emotions and stimuli outside of the strictures of their job. The most blatant example is Eristede Kell's relationship with his sister.
