So I've been playing 40k for about 3 years now. So far I have a lot of fun playing the game, however I find myself switching armies every 6 months or so or running out of steam to build and paint. I love the models when Im done painting them, but getting there is a long process.

Really Im wondering if I just have to wrong mentality for the hobby or if I just havent found the right army for me yet. Have any of you guys experienced this or would like to recommend an army that you play?

Yep, im tempted all the time.

Its easier to build a new army and say you will finish it then it is to paint the ones you got. You have an addiction.

In all seriousness buying new armies is easy and fun because there is just something so appealing about coming up with army ideas and seeing them come to life.

If you want to save money and time, you need to pick an army and stick to it. Then one day, when you have a fully painted 40k army, you can look at another game and do the same thing.

Just gotta practice self discipline. All hobbies have this issue, ever heard about the steam game joke video gamers laugh about? Or the new golf club sayings etc? Its a problem many have, just gotta show self restraint and take your time. Your hobby will be better off when you reach that stage.

The internet won't accept this.

I've started three armies since I started 40k again right when 7th edition dropped. And I'm about to start two more, Dark Angels and Inquisition, but I keep threatening to do up Inquisition and other things keep getting my money first so prolly just the Dark Angels. And I don't sell a single model or army once I have them.

There's nothing wrong with being a little scatterbrained (in my case) on which army you want to play. As long as you can afford what is undoubtably an expensive hobby and other aspects of your life don't suffer. It's a game. It's supposed to be fun. If jumping around time and time again is fun for you, then do so.

Switch the structure of the lists you use.
If you play your army as bikers, try tanks, or on foot, or with flyers.

If you're bored of painting that army, try painting an elaborate scheme on a commander. Or, swap out some hears for 1 squad and see how that goes.

Swapping armies is normal, and usually good.
I wanted to get a well painted IG tank army, but the starter box was Marines and Orks. I expanded the SM a bit, got into Eldar as my 2nd army, then got a load of IG in a sale.
So, swapping armies is not the problem. Getting enough of your main army should be a goal, with something like a unit-per-unit painting plan. Paint a unit of army 1, then something else and back to army 1.
Make milestones. Base them on an idea list.

Whatever works, really.
