Subject: Your assassin of choice?

I've been rummaging through my Assassinorium (hur hur) etc and have been looking at the options and picking out what I would find to be "good".
Trying to see if any of them would actually be worth their points in a game, as well as me liking their style. For I like the idea of the sniping vindicare and the "infiltrate 1" from the enemy and stab them to death" Callidus.
However the vindicare only gets 6 shots in a game, and thats ... well, if you use the special ones on tanks it might earn back his points and more, but against characters it wlll be a bit hit and miss due to LOS rolls.
The callidus will always be a distraction and a diversion, but I'm not sure how long it will survive, or how much damage it would do before dying.
Not a fan of the other two tbh, though im sure the psychic one is good vs eldar.
Do you guys have opinions of the assassins? (Im sure you do :p )

I guess it depends who you play against, if you fight a lot of tanks and vehicles he would probably make himself pretty useful. I'm tempted to try running the callidus in a game and infiltrate him somewhere ridiculous. AP2 flame template first turn could do some damage to a squad.

Wolf Lord with The Black Death riding a Thunderwolf and surrounded by his similarly-engaged bretheren. Subtle he ain't, but nothing says 'you, right there, are going to die this turn' like 500 points of angry Space Viking Werewolves.
Of the actual assassains, I like the Vindicare best (although less so than the old one), but the Eversor could make a nice missile and the Callidius is pretty awesome (although again less cool than the previous incarnation). Culexis I've never used, it depends on army build while the others are all plug-in-and-play.

I like the Vindicare and it surely makes it points back.
You shouldn't focus on the direct damage, but on the consequences of its actions.
Scenario #1:
-You kill a Marine with Missile Launcher
-That ML would have killed/stopped your transport
-That transport is carrying your assault unit.
Can you express this in a point-value?
Scenario #2:
-You kill a Librarian with Invisibility
-His big unit can now be shot decently.
Again, there is no price you can put on these things.

They're all good at very specific tasks. Vindicare is excellent against vehicles an instant S10 ap2 72" shot each turn is really good vs vehicles. If only he could use that S10 against everything else. Very mediocre against most anything else except maybe artillery. He's not terribly good at picking off warlords since most will still have a 4+ los and you still only wound on a 4+. Besides vehicles, he's probably best for picking off nasty sargents and heavy weapons troopers, but there are plenty of other options that can do that job better. Callidus is good for targeting the enemy warlord, her ap2 poisoned template will hurt tough units like terminators and mcs, not so much against regular infantry. Firing snap shots against her on turn 1 is a huge benefit. She can charge bottom of 1 or top of 2 and start taking out either a tough HQ or Elites unit. Hit and run is her best asset and she can spend all game jumping away from units just to flame them and charge again. Eversor is the most vulnerable assassin since he's the only one without real protection against shooting, just his 4+ invul and 5+ fnp. He's great against enemy fast attack units or low model count elites (assault squads, crisis suits, Nid warriors, space marines, etc). He has nothing that's ap2, so he better be targeting something he can kill. His 2+ shred poison attack also makes him very good against MCs. The easiest mistake is to throw him at a large infantry squad expecting him to wreck house, but overwatch will be very painful since he can't kill nearly as many as the callidus before the charge. And 5 attacks per turn is not enough to clear a blob, in CC he's basically as durable as 3 space marines so pick your targets carefully. The culexus is the most easily overlooked, but also has the most potential imo. It's not worth shelling out points on psykers just to boost his shooting, so he's probably getting 2-3 S5 ap1 shots at 18", which ain't great. But he's the most durable assassin since he's always targeted at BS1 and WS1 and he's obviously awesome against psykers since he insta-dispels any powers. His killer ability is life drain, which gives him ap2 and instant death against psykers and instant death on a roll of 6. He can wound up to T8 and just needs to roll one 6 to wound to take out pretty much any MC in the game. He's a one-man death star busting machine, able to clear invisibility, endurance, or anything else without even a roll required. Run him at a hive tyrant, a cent-star, or a farseer and watch them evaporate.

The Vindi is the one I plan on running, so I gotta go with that - but that being said, I would LOVE to field a Culexus. In fact, I might have to, in the future. She's good even without enemy psykers, and is great when they're fielded. Being shot at BS1 means you're going to have to unload a truckload of shots at her to make anything happen. And absolutely disintegrating psykers in melee is a pretty cool idea.

I'm planning on running a Culexus in my Tau list soon enough (as soon as I find a suitable model fir it, a I'm fluffing it as an alien auxiliary).
Even without psykers on the board I find it really good:
-WS 1 and BS1 rule coupled with T4 means that unless your opponent's army has access to s8 or greater blasts it's a pain to remove.
-3 shots (most of the time) of s5 ap1 range 18 on the Psychic phase, giving it a mini JSJ since you can run in the Shooting phase
-4 (5 on a charge) AP2 melee attacks with ID on 6 means it's an excellent MC killer.

You might check out Infinity miniatures, more specifically, the Combined Army. They're all different aliens, look sufficiently sci-fi to look great as an assassin. Special Operative Ko Dali is one I had considered using myself as a Culexus. It would look prime painted to match with a Tau army.
I forgot to mention, you might need to do a bit of conversion work, because most Infinity miniatures have guns, although it shouldn't be too tough.

I was thinking about Combined Army I just need to look into what local FLGS (if any) sells Infinity. Ordering straight off website puts a single model at around 20 € including shipping, which is a bit pricy IMO.
I don't mind the gun. Animus Speculum can be a gin IMO. Much like Gray Knights fire their Psicannons (or was it the Psilencer) by focusing their psychic power into the gun, a special kind of alien could fire a special kind of gun by focusing the psychic energy he absorbs.

Have you tried Miniature Market, or Paizo? The deals on there don't seem to be half bad. I haven't had the luck of seeing them in store here either :(
I don't mind the guns either, I feel like you can fluff em out pretty easily, but I know some people are picky, haha

The Culexus is the answer to Screamer and Centurion Star, as well as any other psychic based combo, and also has a decent value for its point cost against other armies.
I don't see how the other assassins could even compare.

For preference, though, the Vindicere will always be the coolest, but the Culexus is definitely the scariest in the current game. Watching him calmly disassemble Mephiston was quite an eye-opener.

The Vindicare is excellent at piece removal, he can neuter a squad each turn. Use him to snipe out special weapons or sergeants. Or take out vehicles of particular importance.

Have an exalt good sir.
The Vindicare has been a favorite of mine for a while even though I have never played him (or any of the assassins for that matter). He just appeals to me the most, I suppose that if I were an assassin, I'd rather be killing my target from a distance rather than up close and personal.

Set him up on a building top. Plinked away at tau the whole time without taking a scratch. Managed to pop a Hammerhead on a 6+1 roll after pen LOL
