Hi,

So I need some advice on this 1500pt list I put together for a couple of games I had. I played two games of which I lost both. The first game I got annihilated by Eldar and the second game I lost against Space Marines but believe I would have won if we didn’t run out of time and the game continued.

I am a bit perplexed since in the game against Eldar I didn’t do too well in close combat against Striking Scorpions with Karandras attached.

The 1500 point list I had consisted of this:

Commander Dante

Sanguinary Priest, jump pack, valors edge, bolt pistol.

10 Tacticals, Heavy Flamer, Flamer, Combi-flamer, drop pod.

10 Scouts, all armed with CCW & BP

8 Death Company, Jump packs, Infernus Pistol, Power Weapon, Thunder Hammer.

7 Death Company, Jump Packs, Infernus Pistol, Power Weapon, Thunder Hammer.

10 Sanguinary Guard, Chapter Banner, 2 Infernus Pistols, 6 Encarmine Swords, 4 Encarmine Axes.

The main problem I has was that Karandras and the Striking Scorpion exarch were quite deadly with their scorpion claws, which they strike at initiative with. I did get the charge on them Karandras strikes at I7 and the exarch strikes at I6 so not a lot I could do really.

I’m thinking that I should probably include a Stormraven in this list, so perhaps I can take one of the Death Compant Squads out. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

SIngle Stormravens are very weak, imo.

That's a lot of bodies to stop at 1500 pts. The Scorpion guys should probably be shot, which is a problem for this list.

On another board I was advised that maybe Vanguard Vets or Command Squads with Storm Shields would be decent as they would be more survivable.

What do think Martel?

Your scouts are kitted out poorly-scouts aren't really designed for close combat, which is basically all they're good for if you're giving them bolt pistols and CCW. I'd be tempted to drop them first, or at least halve the squad so that you've still got two troops choices but have some points to spend. Maybe upgrade the remaining five to a more suitable shooty task.

I agree with Martel-when you're outmatched with initiative, shooting is best. Not sure about storm shields because I'm unfamiliar with the Eldar unit you're talking about-if AP3 is part of the problem, then yeah, storm shields might help, but I'd still be tempted to up your shooting in order to even things out. As it stands, while your list is reasonably fast, it isn't dangerous until you're within 12 inches.

To summarise-cut back on scouts, maybe cut some of your infernus pistols because they suffer from the same short range issue. Then sink the points you make back into something that can threaten at range-a plas or grav tactical squad would not be a bad choice. Increases your threat radius a little and increases your power armour body count.

Lose 5 scouts, give the remaining snipers. Lose all inferno pistols. Change hammers to pfists, with 7 or 8 dc when do you care what happens next cc phase? The enemy never lasts past the first round. Then if you lose 1 dc you just made room for 5 bikers with 2 grav and 1combiGrav on sarg. I would think about that unit man. It's dirty. Priest with a combiGrav on there is better, but maybe more important with dante

You could try that, but I really, really suggest you use that BS 4 in this case and shoot enemies that are crazy good at HTH. Your list is not something I've even attempted since 5th, and then I was getting beat by SW and IG constantly.
