I'm considering fielding an OMI in Termie armour with a Psycannon, and the Inquisition Codex has the old Assault/Heavy rules for the Psycannon. I will also have GK Psycannons on other parts of the field (and perhaps even in the same unit.)
Can anyone think of a significant rules difference, when mounted on a Terminator, between Salvo 2/4 and Assault2/Heavy4 that I would need to be careful about keeping clear with my opponents in-game?

When mounted on a Terminator? Since Terminators have Relentless, they will always fire 4 shots up to the maximum range. So I really doubt there would be a problem.
You might still want to go over it with your opponent pre-game though.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If the only difference is Assault 2/Heavy 4, and Salvo 2/4 (and I know that the rules state that Relentless models always use the Heavy profile), then it does not matter.

Technically a relentless model with an old psycannon could use the assault profile if he wanted to, but that would almost never be beneficial.
A relentless model with the Salvo version doesn't have a choice since the Salvo rules say if the model is stationary you get 4 shots at max range.

Sorry you are correct. A relentless model can choose, however, a model in terminator armour always uses the Heavy profile.

Why is that?
Is there a specific call out in the Inquisition codex?

Yep, from the Inquisition codex:
A psycannon can either be fired as a Heavy weapon or an Assault weapon. Models in Terminator armour always use the Heavy option

Weird. Seems like a pointless line.

Its practically the same but technically when shooting you kinda need to keep them separately because they have different profiles.
