Some local guys and I have started a BFG campaign, and I'm SUPER excited about it. The host has been gracious with his time and energy.

Here's our starmap:
https://sites.google.com/site/bfgcampaign/home/starmap

I don't necessarily want to post my fleet actions (in case other players read this), but I will be posting the narrative battle reports for my skirmishes. Several of the opening stories will be against "NPC" fleets as we each expand to conquer the surrounding systems. Keep checking back to see how the fleet is doing!

I will post my starting fleet, 2000 points:

Emperor's Children Warmaster - 100 points
Flagship, Emperor's Children Battle Barge Wage of Sin, Veil of Lust upgrade - 450
Chaos Space Marine Battle Barge Discordant Bliss - 425

Devastation Class Cruiser Violator - 190
Murder class Cruiser Ecstasy in Death - 170
Murder class Cruiser Manzoku Sori - 170

Slaughter class cruiser Maedashi - 165
Slaughter class cruiser Ostentatia - 165
Slaughter class cruiser Deadly Intent - 165

I don't own many escorts, so admittedly replacing losses is going to be a slow process. I'll have to be a bit more careful than normal with my ships.

First battle report, defending my system against Dark Eldar:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Defense platform U-16.192
Captain's log, M41.106.12.103

Two engine signatures detected beyond asteroid field. Cruiser-sized, whatever they are. Astropath tells me they're slaughters, but what does he know. Lord Mi'Khael sent word that he sent back Ostentatia, Maedashi, and Deadly Intent, so there should be three. I've sent out the battle stations alert to the entire garrison. Only weapon platform numbers 1 and 2 have responded, so far. I'm launching bombers to scout.

Captain's log, M41.106.13.102

Eldar! Eldar! Slaanesh be praised, they're here! Bombers reported sightings of Eldar ships in the asteroid belt. Explosions detected, no signs of enemy ships. Unknown class. The slaughter squadron has sent word they are in-system, moving at speed. System monitors have responded, they're coming about. No response from the torpedo platform or the system ships.

Captain's log, M41.106.13.601

Eldar vessels are likely carriers. Eldar fighters have intercepted our last bomber wave. Lance batteries report they've shot down the Eldar fighters and they won't be causing us any trouble. I'm launching more bombers. This old hulk has plenty of launch bays, thankfully.

Captain's log, M41.106.14.312

The slaughters are in proximity. Power signatures indicate they have full power to engines - they've the swiftness of daemons, no mistake.

Eldar sighted! Lots of blades on those ships. Unlikely to be craft world Eldar. That means no spirit stones! Slaanesh shall feast! They're back in the asteroids. More explosions.

Captain's log, M41.106.15.061

No sign of the Eldar. Maybe they've been destroyed? Slaughters have entered orbit, all ships operational, on standby. Bombers are edging the asteroid field looking for signs of the enemy. Torpedo platform launched a spread out to nowhere. Apparently several thousand slaves loaded themselves into torpedoes and escaped in the confusion. Station monitor scheduled to be executed tomorrow.

Captain's log, M41.106.16.271

They're here! Two dark Eldar cruisers, full spread of attack craft. Our bombers are gone. Weapon batteries firing.....direct hits on system monitor 2. It's gone. Slaughters are putting power to maneuvering thrusters, coming about. Firing.....may be a bit premature... Oh, they shot attack craft. No sign of them, guess they got a hit.

Captain's log, M41.106.16.412

Cruisers making another run. Full spread of attack craft, doesn't look like fighters. Firing...no hits! Slaanesh smiles on us! Slaughters coming about... Maedashi and Ostentatia firing full spread, looks like....direct hits! Target crippled. Lances firing....direct hit! Target listing... Weapon batteries, eight second delay, on my mark....Fire!.....direct hit! Its plasma drive looks like it's going....enemy cruiser is braced for impact....there she goes! Oh glory for chaos, there must be hundreds, maybe thousands of souls siphoning into my prince's clutches! Enemy cruiser coming about....it's gone. Back into the asteroid field. Hah! What a shot!

Standing captain's log, M41.107.08.165

Captain Harussen has been slain, and I have been put in command. The commander of the Maedashi took offense at him stealing his kill and finishing off the Eldar cruiser. Looks like I am in charge now. The slaughterers are going to remain in orbit as a garrison force, until they are given orders to rejoin the fleet. Salvage crews are picking through what little remains of the Eldar cruiser. Not much left. They don't build those things to take damage.

Second battle report, my full fleet quelling a 500 point defense-force fleet of an NPC system:

Captain Malthus sat in the command throne on the bridge of the Violator, staring at the data readouts, one word burning in his mind.

"Bait....." He hadn't realized he had said the word out loud. The wretches at the consoles below him hunched their backs a bit more in fear, detecting his displeasure. The Violator had been chosen as a lure to draw out the defenses of the Tk'Telna system ships, a task normally relegated to faster vessels such as the Slaughter class cruisers that were currently en route from their defense of the Ulnara system. He looked at the long-range scanners to make sure that the rest of the fleet was still there, and hadn't abandoned him to stifle his ambition.

They were there. And they weren't the only ones.

At the same time that he noticed the blips on his console, the servitor to his right squawked out in its garbled voice, "Contacts. Enemy. Nova class. ETA thirty minutes."

Malthus grinned and punched in the runes that would alert the fleet that he was being followed. "Silent running. Pull us closer to that planet. Let them think we're trying to hide." The operating lights in the already-dim bridge lowered further and the ship shuddered as the auxiliary engines struggled to turn its mass. He watched the timer count down, speeding its rate as the enemy ships increased speed in response to his maneuver. The fleet, somewhere ahead, increased theirs as well, speeding toward the arena.

"Five minutes." Squawked the servitor. "Multiple contacts. Two squadrons."

"Power up, full power to engines. Let's give them a little chase before their doom." The engines roared, propelling the ship forward and away from the pursuing escorts. The blips on the screen spread out into lines as the enemy ships lined up for an attack run. Ten in total, Malthus didn't particularly feel comfortable taking them all on by himself. The Tk'Telna were a hardy breed of ab-human, barely tolerated by the Imperium but capable of flying mock-ups of the adeptus astartes. Not bad in a fight, either. As the Violator sped forward, tiny dots of light ahead of him began to fragment and multiply. The Wage of Sin and Discordant Bliss had arrived, and launched their attack craft. It was too far to tell for sure, but given their thirst for bloodshed, they had probably launched Dreadclaws.

"Launch attack craft. Full spread of Dreadclaws. We will be the ones to spill first blood today!" While not as lethally efficient as the chaos space marine boarders from the heavier elements of the fleet, the Violator's assault crews were renowned for their ruthlessness. Within moments of their launch, they had already affixed themselves to two of the enemy vessels. Their melta charges detonated deep within the vessels, and they vanished from the tactical readout. Minutes later the assault boats from the Discordant Bliss carried out an attack of their own, destroying one of the members of the other squadron. Wage of Sin's dreadclaws were finalizing their attack run when the surviving members of the first squadron turned abruptly and flew themselves into the path of the swarming assault boats. In a flurry of destruction, the escorts evaporated, leaving an expanding cloud of debris and an eyebrow-raised Malthus drumming his fingers.

"Hum. Well... that...."

"Wage of Sin is under attack! Enemy closing fast!" Screamed one of the tactical monitors. "Four enemy frigates have put all power to their engines....I think they're attempting to ram her!"

Malthus tapped a button and enhanced the readout of the battlefield, zooming in on the relevant area and projecting it large at the front screen of the bridge. It depicted the aforementioned Novas, drive plasma venting hot out their aft quarter, as they made speed toward the Wage of Sin, turning majestically to make herself a harder target. She was too slow, though, and it was apparent they were going to collide.

"They can't really be.... those aren't built for it...." His musings were answered as the ships began to slow their speed. The power readouts showed the energy build up behind the turrets on their topside and prow. "What is Mi'Khael doing? Why hasn't he launched more craft?" He knew the answer before he spoke, however. He was giving them a parting shot, toying with them. He wanted them to fight back.

"Enemy escorts diverting power to weapons. They've acquired lock on Wage of Sin."

"Navigator, bring us about. If he's going to play with his food, then we ought to..."

"Direct hits! Wage of Sin shields overloaded! She's bracing for impact.....Lance batteries firing...... Surface damage, nothing vital. Looks like she'll need a new paint job, nothing more."

Malthus sighed, shaking his head. That could have been worse. He shared no love for Mi'Khael, but he knew the fleet couldn't stand to lose its flagship so soon after the start of the campaign. "Navigator, hurry up and get us in there. I'd like to account for more than just two loyalists today."

"Coming about, Master....but it's over. Discordant Bliss has opened fire and launched another wave of assault boats. The last of the enemy is destroyed."

"Enemy Destroyed" Echoed the servitor. The fact that it responded so far behind the human monitor concerned Malthus. Perhaps he should have it checked, or run a diagnostic on the interface.

He drew his bolt pistol from its holster and, without even looking, put a round through the front of the servitor's skull, exploding it across the panels behind it in a shower of pickled brain matter and skull fragments.

"Clean that up and find me one that works" he snarled. The human crew members scuttled hurriedly to obey as he grinned. There was no-one to stop them now.
