The local shop is doing an escalation league in February, so I saw this as an excuse to finally take up CSM. Surprisingly, I'm the only CSM player registered so far - SM and Tau seem to be the majority. The first match is 500 points, plus an extra 50 points for making an in-store purchase. No fliers. This was my first stab at a list:

HQ

Chaos Lord: bike, Mark of Nurgle, Black Mace

Troops

10 Chaos Space Marines: 2 Meltas
1 Rhino

10 Cultists: autoguns, Flamer, shotgun

Fast Attack

4 Chaos Spawn: Mark of Nurgle

This comes out to 549 points. I figure the cultists can objective camp in the back field while the CSM roll around mid. The Lord and the 4 Spawns will try to do all the heavy lifting.

I like the setup, but I'm a little apprehensive at depending on the Lord/Spawns. I thought about trying to trim points and get a dirge caster on the Rhino, this way it might be able to park next to a unit and prevent it overwatching into the Lord/Spawns. The only reason I took the shotgun was because the model already has one, I'm not sure what difference it would make.

As always, any help or advice is appreciated. This is my 3rd escalation league at the shop and you guys have always been good about getting me started

5 Marines, Rhino, Melta Gun

Exactly 500 points... your Lord will certainly wreck face if your opponent points their guns at your Rhino instead. Your melta gunner for sure will survive a lot longer and get more shots off with the huge threat of the Lord.

Chaos Lord - Bike, MoN, LC, PF, SoC, VotLW

10X Cultists - Autopistols, Flamer

6X Marines + Champion - CCWs, Boltguns, Plasma Gun, Rhino

Bikers - 2x Melta Guns, MoN, PF & MB on Champ, VotLW

550 on the nose. I don't like black mace, to easy to kill off your own unit with it. It is best left to demon princes. Vetrans of the Long War because you said you would face a lot of marine armies.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

If you go without standard chaos relics may as well take Daemonheart on your Lord as well.

Stick on slaughterers horns while you're there.

The nurgle biker lord with all the upgrades is a veritable beast.

Daemon Heart and Slaughterer's Horns are from the Crimson Slaughter codex, correct? I don't yet have that. Is there any change to the points values of models, or could I just look up those 2 bits of equipment?

I'm glad that everyone likes the biker lord, I showed the owner of the local GW shop (who also plays Chaos) and he liked the list. If I removed the Black Mace, would adding a Power Maul be an OK alternative? I've already modeled him, so in order to add the PF/LC I would have to remove his arms.

Power maul is good, but not great. I have a lord with deamonheart, Horns, and wings(jump pack) and mark of Slaanesh and I love it. But to answer you, yes they sre form Crimson Slaughter. Deamon heart costs 6 meltabombs, Slaughterer's Horns cost 3 meltabombs. Also, if you like The Black Mace, go for it. It is more of a danger to Tau than you, and with MoN more dangerous to loayalist marines than you. The big guys with higher toughness like riptides will laugh at it though. Just hope you get a lot of wounds on them.

I won't face a Riptide at this stage, but for future reference how do CSM deal with something like that? Daemon Prince? Meltaguns?
