Hey Dakka, I've just recently gotten back into the hobby, and as I've started to paint more and more of my Night Goblins, I've noticed the offensive lack of Squigs. I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I'm currently playing a sub-2000pt. Night Goblin theme army mostly composed of infantry. In your experiences, which Squig unit is the most fun for its cost in $ and/or points? Winning sounds nice, but I'm really going for an army that's both enjoyable to play and to play against.

Even better, if you've got any suggestions for conversions that I could do (i.e. Pink Horrors --> Squigs) to save a bit of dough, I'd love to hear them.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Mangler Squigs are pure gold. If you're decent with greenstuff you could make your own out of a couple of small foam balls and greenstuff.

Squig hoppers are funny, not very good, but they are hilarious.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

What about Squig herds? Are they worth trying out?

Wrong. Squig hoppers are amazing. Bad moon banner boss as BSB which gives -1 to enemy BS, if charged enemies in contact take a Dangerous Terrain test. Lord ight goblin equipped with the (3) Magic Resistance for the entire pack. Add the Terrifying Mask of Eee for terror. 3D6 random movement, enemies can't stand and shoot or flee during Random Movement. The Great Cave Squig gives rerolls to random movement. The guys suck, but in a horde formation, each Squig getting 2 attacks a piece at WS 4 Str 5. did I forget Immune to psycology and no Animosity? Oh yeah and you're skirmishers so you give another -1 to enemy BS. That's -2 to BS, Magic Resistance 3, Random Movement with rerolls, Terror on Random Movement into charge. I could go on forever baby.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Squig Herds are super fun. Not only that they are SUPER cheap and fun to push around. No random movement so they foot slog it. For my story games I will use them, but hands down Hoppers are the most underrated and used unit that is just amazing.

I don't know anything about O&G, but this has been clarified to do nothing. Terror says they take the LD test or have to choose the Flee! reaction. Random movement says they don't get a reaction at all. It basically just lets you cause Fear in HtH and makes you immune to Fear and Terror.

Problem is that they directly oppose a strong Goblin army. Goblin armies rely on their war machines and shooting the enemy before being forced to melee, but due to their Random Movement, Squig Hoppaz must move every turn and you either end up having the too close to the enemy, being caught out of place or even running off the battlefield (looking at you, 18!). Also, another problem, being Skirmishers and such, in a Horde formation, not only do you have a massively expensive unit, you also have a giant unit you can barely fit in your deployment zone.

Streamdragon is correct about Terror. The only thing it actually does is causing Fear in melee.
