so id thought id run my fluffy Salamanders list by you guys and see what you thought

I would definitely get those troops in rhinos. The mobility and protection is always worth it.
Once you are down that route, I guess the multimeltas in rhino are the better option. I do run lascannons tho and they are pretty great.

A bit concerned about the pyroclasts being on foot. How are they supposed to get into range?

Well in my 40k list I can tell you I typically drop pod in the best assassinating units (usually sternguard packing multi-meltas) while the rest charge in rhinos the first turn then disembark with the rhinos as mobile cover. I'm assuming you want much the same strategy overall.

Unfortunately drop pods in 30k are all or nothing.

Well in 40k this generally plays to the strength of the army anyway.
