Now I know that I can't be the first guy to think about this, but I had a thought: what if someone (or team of people) made custom codex supplements by request? I'm new and I wouldn't be surprised if someone did this already, but wouldn't it be great if you had a cool, random, obscure and/or unloved (by GW that is) Chapter, and you could submit maybe some custom lore and you could commission a free codex supplement.
For example I play Dark Hunters, which has very little info except for colour scheme and one or two moments in history. I could just maybe invent a couple characters and a few more events, cobble together a supplement, choose some special rules, and done! What's your thoughts?

People make homebrew codexes all the time. But you cant realy play them exept in friendly enviorments with your friends permission.

I guess - I just thought it'd be cool as a service - you'd give the chapter and company number, and some of your custom lore, and the codex writers would make the rest.

Oh no I don't require one I'm perfectly capable of writing my own. Ill ask a more direct question: should we set up a service like that here on dakkadakka, and then make them available for download/view?

Already excists as mentioned. Nobody is happy to settle on one becoming standard tho. Some gaming groups do however.

Ok well thanks for clarifying. Time for me to think of some courageous acts that my 40K self has accomplished.

To be completely honest. If you did it well and made it look the part, i imagine you could fairly easily palm it off as a legit special data slate or something.
There are so many of these things flying around i personally wouldn't necessarily know.

I'm not condoning it, just pointing it out.
