With microsoft announcing its hololens reality augmenting technology
http://www.maximumpc.com/what_impact_will_hololens_have_pc_gaming_2015
I got to thinking; imagine if games workshop tried applying it to warhammer 40k. you could add more immersive layers to the game. smoke, explosions, debirs and rubble etc.
when troops shoot actual laser/bolts show
some may argue people dont want to spend a lot of money on a headset and that this would be a waste; but considering the facts people have $1000 forgeworld models i dont think it would be that hard to market it to wargamers
what do you guys think?

I think if you're going to go to that extent, you might as well just remove the physical miniatures entirely and play with holograms.

Ya probably would be the more simple route to go....not that that'd be a problem; would be still awesome

That'd be really cool. Maybe a virtual paintbrush set too?

Imagine the possibilities. After buying the system, you wouldn't have to buy any more Citadel (tm) Miniatures (tm).
You would not have to put effort into awesome painting.
There would be great visuals, and no terrain needed!
Therefore it would cost $1,000,000,000,000,000 and be a available from Direct Order only.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Actually, I would prefer to keep the models as real things, much like it is now. But the digital table would be able to track base placement, so that when you do a 6" movement and pick up a piece, a circle would appear showing the limits of your movement.
And if you put it down out of range, it would flash up showing you to move it back, you little cheat.
Also, when shooting, it can show you all enemies within range of your current weapon. etc.
Basically remove all the measuring you do during a game, which would speed things up.
Also you could have different terrain for every game, and automatically show when units are benefitting from cover or not.
but using holographic models would spoil the main point of the game, for some people anyway. I like modelling and painting.
