Subject: Possible just to make an earthshaker artillery piece with the pieces from the Basilisk kit alone?

Decided that my new army is going to be renegades. Already got the spawn (well - being delivered from ebay). Next im looking at earthshaker cannons. They cost £71 on forgeworlds site which is an absolute joke. You would think they'd be cheaper than the whole chuffing tank, not almost twice the price!
Anyway, im not giving up on them since they are 55pts apiece.
So is it possible just to make an earthshaker artillery piece with just the basilisk box, or will I require something extra? Furthermore, if I just bought a few basilisks from ebay without the boxes. What is the best way to go around converting them to simple artillery pieces?

Honestly, if all you want is big artillery platforms, take a look at WWII model kits. Should be able to find lots of big guns for cheap. Maybe even Bolt Action has some?

Good plan. Cheers!
Oh - do you roughly know the height of the earthshaker pieces for comparison?

Ww2 artillary has huge range of guns to choose from.
Anything from a 105-203mm at right scale will do.

Thank you! Automatically Appended Next Post: I know this is a flak gun but could it represent a basilisk? It is in 28mm scale.

Couldn't see any measurements for it, but as long as the scale is correct, it should be just fine. Some people would want the barrel a bit wider, possibly.

Yeah, most Historical guns will be a tad on the wide side.
As for the initial question, you'll want some plasticard to build the base plate on which you'd mount the gun, but that's trivially easy. A sheet of Plasticard, a Bassie kit and a good knife gets you an Earthshaker and a Chimera for the price of one kit.
It would also be easy enough to build Earthshakers from scratch. Builld the frame and platform from plasticard, use thin pipes or pens for the barrels.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate all the input.
If I can also get a chimera out of it, it may be worth buying gws basilisk and creating both. As they are only at £31 there. But, are for some reason, not supplied to any of their discount retailers.

Scale may be a issue but a m110 in correct scale could make a good alternative basalisk if you ever wanted one.

I'll have a look for that one. The best representation I've found so far is the 150-155mm long tom, but having issues finding the right scale.

M110 may be bigger as a 8 inch gun. 203mm
But it looks nice n chunky, make a good hevey looking gun and solid.
Looks like impirial tech I think. Everything on big scale n solidly built.
Maybe not perfect but as 40k fluff goes there are many variants on many different worlds

I snagged a bunch of 155mm Long Tom artillery pieces from a webstore for 6$ a piece + tax - they come complete with carriage and all, it's pretty insane.
I'll try and past in a ling to the website when I get home ( I cannot for the life of me remember), but suffice it to say I was extremely surprised. The kits themselves, whilst essentially "toys" are pretty solid.. And considering most alternatives are at least 30$+, with the FW stuff being 100$+.. It's a pretty simple way to get the gun and chasis, and have some cash over for converting if you like.

Found the one you are talking about! Unfortunately it doesn't deliver outside the US, so I've emailed them. Cheers for that. It'll be 1/4 of the price of what I was looking at. 1:32 scale too!
