What is your preferred faction and why?

Do you prefer that faction because you think their tactics and ships are superior and fit your playing style better or do you prefer them due to reasons based on cannon and back story?

I for one prefer the Empire, based on the simple fact that the rebels are terrorists. Joking aside DOS based Tie-Fighter will always hold a special place in my heart as it was one for the first computer games my Dad got for me. Additionally I like the flexibility that the Empire has when building lists as you can run 8 Tie Fighter swarm or a small list of high skilled pilots or two large ships. Also the Tie-Interceptor is my favorite ship in the whole game!

Rebels.

I like their play style (ragtag bunch rugged, shielded ships) but the main reason is because of the original Star Wars movies. I fell in love with the movies as a kid and I loved rooting for the underdog heroes (I still do) so the idea of flying ships piloted by Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Wedge Antilles really drew me in.

But I love Vader too because it's impossible not to.

And some, I assume, are good people."

Both rebels and empire. Leaning rebels right now because of habit (and, until recently, a shortage of gaming time to explore new ideas), but once autothrusters and the TIE advanced fix arrive I'll probably be playing a lot more imperial lists. Why limit yourself to half the game?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Voted Scum. I'm getting into the game way later than my friends, who have pretty heavily established Rebel and Empire fleets. Scum gave me an opportunity to jump in with a fleet I thought was nice bit different than established lists and themes.

Or at least, will be if Fantasy Flight would ever frelling release them!

This, with the addition that I will start playing with scum. It'll be interesting to try some new tricks with old ships.

Scum is going to be interesting as it has already taken ships that were previously exclusive to the other factions, Y-Wings, Z-95s and HWK-290 for the Rebels and the Firespray for the Empire and wrapped them up under a single banner. I wonder if this is something that we'll see in the near future with other ships; I could see the Lambda Shuttle having a Rebel and Scum variant as it has wide use across the galaxy by a myriad of groups.

@streamdragon I have a good friend that is in the same boat as you are, he is new to the game and has been purchasing a few existing ships such as the HWK-290 that will be featured in Scum in anticipation for the line to release in the near future and playing with a few of my models when we play to get a feel for the dials of what will be offered.

Mostly rebels now, I own all the models used in my games but my friend mostly uses the Imps when he comes round to play. I'm fine with this as I've always been more of a single faction kind of guy.

We're watching you... scum.

Scum through and through.

I've always rooted for the morally ambiguous lone wolf figure stickin it out on his or her own and the Mandalorians and other various Bounty Hunters and misfits of the Star Wars universe always appealed to me.

Also, much like the nostalgia others have referenced for the old star wars fighter games, I played a lot of Star Wars Galaxies back in the day and the Scyk interceptor has a very special place in my heart.

I already have a Firespray, a Z95 and a HWK and I can't wait for the expansion to drop.
