Hello,
The Mhorgoth Rising set is available for a ridiculously good price of £29.99.
I know KoW is getting a new rules release later this year, but is it worth getting this as an introduction in to the system?
With all the hubbub over on planet Warhammer it could be a good jumping on point, and I loves me some dwarfs and skellies!

For the price, I'd say it's worth it just for the models! If I played Fantasy games outside of LotR I'd maybe grab a couple of sets at that price point, to get a couple of near-complete armies! And by all accounts the Skellies are among the best Mantic kits, so you can't go wrong there.
The new KoW rules will be free as well, so you needn't worry about having to shell out for a new rulebook.

I've bought 2 or 3 of them over the past few years. The value is great.

Thanks for your input, gents.
There's not really a good reason to NOT buy it, is there?!

True - but 100 minis for £30... You could learn to love them!

I think I got a set for maybe $30 on a clearance shelf. I went back and picked up the other one after thinking about it
You get a lot of stuff, don't forget about the mantic points! I think all of the skeleton shield sticker sheets have a point and I believe there are others in there besides. The dwarfs seem pretty solid and the skeles/zombies/ghouls are probably my favorite undead from most anywhere.

FREE STUFF! I have a few MPs tucked away with the Deadzone/Dreadball sets too. Nice one!
My parcel has arrived. I intend to build both forces and get a few games in as soon as humanly possible.

Have fun!
You may want to dig around in the depths of Mantic's free downloads Wargames Vault for the old Mantic Journal that had a scenario for the boxed set, only needing two character models for the leaders. (Nice scenario - each side has differing victory conditions. The dwarfs want to get an item from a tomb, the undead want to kill the dwarfs that are robbing their tomb. (Well, poo. The free download of the magazine is gone from the Mantic site, or if it is still there then I can't find it.)
The Dwarf leader is Garreck Heavyhand - who has since become one of the special characters for Kings of War.
The Auld Grump - I used that scenario to teach my girlfriend the rules for the game... back in the first alpha of the rules.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along. |
