Hi everyone, I purchased an Ork Army over the holidays and have it assembled. The other day my friend and I did a 1000 Pt battle, no mission just battled to the death. I used the Warband, I forgot to bring any Rokkits (needless to say I had nothing to deal with Armor 12), anyways by the start of my second turn I realized I had no chance of winning.....my friend was using the Space Wolves and it took him to turn 3 to beat me.

I do have an Eldar army and I find it very easy to point and shoot with that army, I am having a little trouble adapting to the Orks. Can you guys please suggest how to set-up a decent 1000 pt Ork army. Here are the models I have:

1 model Warboss
1 model Mek
77 models Ork Boys
11 Gretchin w/ Grunthred (sp?)
3 models Meganobz
1 models Deef Dred
3 models Warbikers
5 models Flash Git
4 Trukks

Any suggestions on what models to purchase next would be great, I was thinking:
1 unit of Tank Bustas
2 more units of Meganobz
1 Burna Bomba
2 units of Warbikers

If you buy/make two painboy you could have two large squads of tough boyz. You could also put 12 of the remaining boyz in a truck and the grots in the backfield. With four troop sources you could split into two detachments and get your warboss and mek back in with the boyz.

With any remaining points I would put Meganobz or tank bustaa in trucks.

I would start all trucks in reserve if you don't have turn one to help line up the timing of your boyz and trucks

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

I played Eldar as my main army before I picked up my Orks as well. It's a completely different playstyle. You'll find that you have to play way more aggressively with Orks.

Meganobz and Deff Dreads can take A12 easily but delivery can be a problem. Your Warboss should have a Power Klaw as well. That number of S10 AP2 attacks will wreck most anything.

You can put Rokkits on the Trukks for free. Nobs with Power Klaws and Boss Poles in each of your Boyz squads. Load up the Meganobz, Flash Gitz and maybe a squad of 4+ Boyz in the Trukks..

Rounding out your Bike squad would give you another fast threat. You could also think about getting some AoBR Deffkoptas and run them in single model units to harass and eat overwatch.

Battle Wagons should be your #1. It's a multi role transport with the durability to get gak done. You can mod them from almost anything. Trukks are cool, but against almost any army they sll die if you don't get turn one. Something a lot of players struggle with is that until most other armies, MSU tactics just don't work for orks for the most part, with the exception being things like skirmishes and focused specialists.

Lootas are primo. It's not that they do any one thing spectacularly, but they are worrisome for everything but AV14. Even 13 is worried, because a unit of lootas can spam out between 15-45 shots. Flash gitz do great as counts as for them.

Nobs. Just the regular ones. You need them to be swinging klaws. The ork mob is often less a fighting force and more of a blob of spare wounds to keep characters alive until they get their klaw swings. The nob kits are fantastic. They come with several klaws, several big choppas, a few combination weapons (good for modding into flash gitz), and other cool things. Most of the bits are easily added to vanilla boyz too, so from a kit with five models you can often get 10+ upgraded "nobs".

Final note: don't forget that with orks, unlike any other army, modding and such are accepted and even mandatory. Make everything you can, and get spare bitz from other players. If anyone tries to argue, just tell them "because orks" and they have to let you get away with it. Use lots of counts - as for models until you get a feel for how the army plays, or you'll end up with a bunch of really pricey units you never use *cough cough* MANZ *cough cough*

So with Eldar, you probably used to having most of your destructive power in the shooting phase. additionally you are probably used to staying out of the way and moving cautiously so as not to take too many casualties from shooting.

Well with Orks is goes a little differently. With the models you have, the shooting phase is the weakest stage. In fact, it should usually be skipped in favor of running or going flatout.

What you want to do is charge straight in to battle. And make sure that YOU get the charge. dont let the enemy charge you. Furious charge and the extra attack make ALL the difference.

And if a vehicles has AV12, and its not a walker. all of your attacks will hit rear armor of AV10. so 30 choppa boyz (lets call it 20 by the time you get there) means 80 s4 attacks on av10. you should be able to glance it down with that.

Also, make sure every mob of boyz has a nob with a PK in it. and its usually a good idea to give all the trukks rokkits instead of big shootas. free swap and in the event the trukks dont get blown up on the way to unloading their boyz, then they will get to fire those weapons at high armor targets.

Thank you for all the reply's back. Lots of good advice, I have another game lined up for Wednesday night. I will work on a new list with some of the suggestion here.

For now I will stick to what I have, the guys I play with will allow me to test out a unit as long as I have a unit/model with similar size. I will tryout the Tank Busta and Lootas.

Any suggestions on the best unit to take out Flyers? Like I said I can use my left over boyz and make the Tank Bustas???

If you need more anti air put your grots behind an aegis defense line with the quad gun. It gives you a front line cover and grots are a better shot than boys.
