Okay Gents,
I took a dive into Dead zone and Warpath. Haven't played a game yet, but gearing up for one. I bought the Dead zone starter set. I want to use my GW models as I just like them more. I know I can proxy pretty much anything I want, but I want the models to closely match the Warpath lore as possible. This leads me to my problem. Most of the factions have direct GW counterparts. The issue I run into is with the Plague. I know most say use Tyranids, but that just doesn't sit right with me, so I am open to other suggestions gents to help represent the models in the starter set. Thanks in advance.

rather then just straight up nids, maybe kit-bash them with some humanoids for a kind of gene-stealer cult look perhaps

Paint up some Chaos Cultists in your chosen Plague scheme, maybe mixed with some GW or Mantic Zomie parts (the Mantic sci-fi Zombies, of course)

Was thinking that, just unsure of what to use or their bigger models and such.

Any particular reason you don't want to do Tyranids/Genestealer Cult? They fit pretty well! In fact, this makes me want to do Tyranid Plague myself...

Stage 1 = Genestealer Patriarch
Stage 2a = Genestealer
Stage 3a = Cultist
Stage 3D (dogs) = Hormagaunts
Plague Swarm = Ripper Swarm
Plague Terraton = Warrior/Tyrant Guard
Plague Mortar = Biovore

I know someone that was planning to go that route.... Then it turned out that there was a playable force in the Deadzone boxed set, so he went with the Plague models instead.

He may never get his old Genestealer Cult painted - and he has had it since 1st edition 40K.

The Auld Grump - he even has a couple of those weird first edition Tyranids with the duck feet on their elevated hind legs....

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Could always try Nurgle units, since they share a plague/virus sort of theme

Stage 1 = GW Nurgle Daemon Prince
Stage 2 = Beast of Nurgle
Stage 3 = Mantic Zombies or Plague Marines
Stage 3 General = Typhus
Dogs = Plaguebearers
Swarm = Nurglings
Teraton = FW Daemon Prince of Nurgle
Mortar = Two zombies or plague marines and find something to be the weapon
Strider = Great Unclean One
Plague Enforcer = Plague marine with a heavy weapon

The genestealer approach shows promise. I think the genestealer patriarch is a little too small to represent a stage one though. I am feeling the Nurgle approach with a mixing of tyranids.

Chaos possessed models would be my initial thoughts.

A space hulk broodlord or the Spawn of Cryptus should be the right size.
