I went to a squad tournament this weekend with my 9x leman russes list. Even with good match ups, my list got hammered bad, REALLY bad. But I got the message that going too specialized isn't good enough because even a small screw up with the ideal setup will cause A LOT of regrets.
This leads me to a radical change of concept, to balance what I missed in my latest games.
1. Good long range fire support. My russ list relied heavily on pask on a punisher, which is too short ranged to really matter against a competent, mobile opponent.
2. Reliable mobility. Leman russes and foot infantry isn't a good example of mobility, at all.
3. Close combat support. Vehicles aren't made for close combat after all.
4. Reliable staying capacity when getting hit. If the opponent can line up good shoots (flanks, high strength ordnance) on my russes, the firepower output dropped a lot.
Here's the first draft of a solution:
[1] Astra Militarum (Combined Arms detachment, Primary detachment)
[2] Imperial Knights (Imperial Knight Detachment)
---------- Imperial Knight ----------
[2] Knight Paladin (xxx points)
[2] Knight Errant (xxx points)
---------- HQ ----------
[1] Commissar Yarrick (xxx points)
[1] Ministorum Priest (xx points)
[1] Ministorum Priest (xx points)
---------- Troops ----------
[1] Infantry Platoon (375 points)
- Platoon Command Squad (Chimera (Multi-Laser, Heavy Bolter))
- Infantry Squad (Heavy Weapons Team (Lascannon))
- Infantry Squad (Heavy Weapons Team (Lascannon))
- Infantry Squad (Heavy Weapons Team (Lascannon))
- Infantry Squad (Heavy Weapons Team (Lascannon))
[1] Veteran Squad (145 points)
- 2x Special Weapon (2x Meltagun)
- Chimera (Multi-Laser, Heavy Bolter)
[1] Veteran Squad (130 points)
- 2x Special Weapon (2x Meltagun)
- Taurox ()
[1] Veteran Squad (130 points)
- 2x Special Weapon (2x Meltagun)
- Taurox ()
---------- Heavy Support ----------
[1] Wyvern Battery (xxx points)
- Wyvern (Heavy Bolter)
- Wyvern (Heavy Bolter)

Here are the answers to my issues:
1. Good long range fire support. 4 buffed lascannons can't be ignored while behind 36 ablative wounds lead by Yarrick.
2. Reliable mobility. 4 mechanized units and 2 superheavy walkers will allow me to project my firepower across the board (well, at least I'm guaranteed to get wrecked at midfield, which is acceptable as a worst case)
3. Close combat support. 2 D-strength wielding, stomping knights will force the assaulty enemy to think twice before assaulting my line. 2 knights will also allow me to pursue multiple offense/defense/flanking approaches as necessity arises.
4. Reliable staying capacity when getting hit. Multiple ablative wounds protecting an eternal warrior, resurrecting from the grave warlord and 4 heavy weapons. metal boxes protecting squishy guardsmen across the field, ion shield protecting an unstable nuclear reactor that retaliates after death in face of my enemies.
What are your opinions on my list? Don't worry to criticize, I still have to purchase any Knights, and I want this to be more competitive than friendly, but not being labeled as "that guy"
PS: for various reasons, I can't change allies or add other special detachments (Inquisition, Assassins, etc...) please consider this while writing suggestions, thanks!

One thing I would suggest is to somehow be able to run a pysker and try to get prescience, it helps the blob a ton, and you also might get another power that's useful like perfect timing, or forewarning, both really powerful to put on the blob, also the only thing you really have to worry about is flyers, which can be tough. besides that, also if you can afford maybe some melta bombs on the sarges for the infantry squad that might stop people from charging the blob, or at least think twice. I run coteaz in mine and have great success with him, and he give my squad unlimited interceptor so pods have be weary where they go. just my two cents

I see that my list can use some psykers... but what would you suggest me to drop for them?

I'm curious what your solution to dealing with a flyer heavy list is? or just dealing with a list that has flyers in general

I would drop one squad of vets in a taurox,/ drop the chimera with the pcs, and you could get a lvl2 from 10 more points or with dropping on vet squad you get get two psykers one lvl2 and one lvl1, then put a mortor for the pcs/ backfield objective score, also dropping one priest and the chimera might do it, just remember that yarrick kills any psykers that perils, so you gotta be carful, and for fliers you can hope to get lucky with your blob squad, so your only option is to ignore them or try and fit in one vendetta inplace of dropping the chimera off the pcs and also a vet squad, then put the pcs in the vendetta, give AA, and mobile score that you loose
