Subject: Trying out our Death Star Trench

Hi everyone,
We tried out our Death Star Trench this past weekend.
Was pretty fun -- but we realized in the middle of the battle that it might be more fun if we played this as a "cooperative scenario" rather than Empire vs. Rebels....
Main issues were along the lines of....
- it's a bit stressful to have TIE fighters chasing after you turn after turn
- if you want to stay true to the Battle of Yavin -- the Death Star does blow up -- and it's hard to see the battle ending without that outcome (unless it's a scenario "fail")
- the texture of the Battle of Yavin seems to be much richer on the Rebel side than on the Empire side....
So, we're going to give this another few tries and see if we can come up with "run rules" for the Empire ships.
Here are our write-ups for building the trench - and for our test run.

By the way - as we built our trench we had some great feedback that we've made it pretty wide. Do agree with that. Only thing to say there is that we're not very good fliers - and having something a little wider helps a bit!!
Thanks

Thanks for showing that with a little bit of work and some thought you can make something awesome looking.
I would have gone to a copier company (Gah! killed a ~$50 ink cartridge!) but that is all I would do different.
My round about way of saying "Have an Exalt!".
I REALLY like the look of X-wing and making nice looking terrain is part of that.
Was looking at what to do for turbo-lasers.

Probably late to chime in, but when I made my Death Star trench run game (using Star Warrior rules), I made an are that contained surface and trench areas ( the trench was barely wide enough for 3 ships).
This allowed for two layers of play - like in the movie, the rebels had to keep some fighters running interferance while a group made an attack run. Also, to spice things up, I put in the scenario a shield tower that had to be taken out before the trench could be accessed (though that didn't occur in the movie, it kept the rebel players from going straight for the trench and gave the imperials some time to shoot at the rebel players).
One of the rules we used was that the ships making an attack run had to be in the trench area and make two turns of straight movement before they could fire. You could possibly duplicate this by requiring 4-6 straight movement in the trench before the ship can fire torpedoes at the vent.

Oh baby, how did I miss this?
Now to hunt down the local supplier and take out a mortgage for 6 or 7 boxes.
Thanks Spellbound! Automatically Appended Next Post: Stormonu wrote:Probably late to chime in, but when I made my Death Star trench run game (using Star Warrior rules), I made an are that contained surface and trench areas ( the trench was barely wide enough for 3 ships).

Yeah your trench is more true to the movie but a slightly wider one allows a couple more maneuvers.
The out of the trench battle could be fun in it's own right with the Millennium Falcon laying waste near the end of the run.
It all just brings tears to my eyes... the awesomeness

I have those towers and find them kinda on the small side.
On the other hand I have bought some towers that are kinda big from somewhere.
I might have time to take some comparison picture tonight.

Hi everyone,
Also just found this very nice posting from a skilled modeler who built their own towers.
Turned out looking pretty cool. And, really like the added effect of being able to have "blown up" turbo laser models.

Thanks
