Hi guys, so my friends talked me into buying infinity with them. Two of them are splitting the operation ice storm pack, and another is getting the Yu Jing army.

Right now i'm torn three ways, between Combined, Aleph, and Tohaa. I like the looks of all three, not too sure how each of them plays though. Which of the three do you guys recommend? and how do they all play?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also made up a list for each of the armies based on what looks cool to me, would any of these be viable lists?

Say, is Ontario really mine to discover?

Joking aside, I recommend the army that you like the looks of best, because that will be the one you will be happiest with. With Infinity, you tend to adapt your army lists to your style of play, and each of the factions has enough flexibility for that.

The Tohaa do play a little differently than ALEPH or the CA because of their fireteam rules.

For learning the game any of the lists you have posted will do just fine, at least at the 150 point level, except maybe the CA list. 6 Orders is cutting things very tight. I do not know enough about the CA to make recommendations for change there other than get 1, or 2, more orders.

In general, as you learn the game you will want to add Camo troops-- Nagas for ALEPH for example (or even Dasyus) -- Snipers and most definitely Hackers.

Icestorm has a 5 scenarios that are designed to teach the basics. Play through those. Then you can make better decisions about what else to add to your army.

It looks like you're using the old profiles, the army builder is going to be updated "soon" whenever that is. The current profiles are in .pdf on CB's website: http://www.infinitythegame.com/archivo/%5BENG%5D_Unit_Profiles.pdf

As for the armies:
Tohaa units are tougher because of the symbiont armor and fireteam rules and move groups of units fairly quickly. Most of there units operate in fireteams of three called triads which can be customized for multiple roles for ex. a heavy infantry with HMG for long range fire, a medic for support and a heavy flamethrower for close quarters. They have generous access to biological weapons like viral weapons (excellent anti-infantry) and swarm grenades (cloud of persistent damage). They have no offensive hacking capability whatsoever and their hackers function as good support units. They're also weak against fire, have a very good Airborne unit and their infiltration/camouflage is middling, not the best but not bad either.

Aleph has two armies one is Steel Phalanx, the Greeks, and the other is the general Aleph army. They both have expensive units, tough infantry and like getting close. Steel Phalanx plays somewhat similarly to Tohaa since they have their own fireteam rules and hard to kill infantry except they base their teams around their officers among other things. They just lack a "surprise" factor and there's not much trickery except for the odd unit. The main Aleph list includes all the Steel Phalanx units without the ability to form fireteams but with all the crazy out of control military budget tech. You get equipment no one else has or has limited access to and Aleph excels in pretty much every category of the game it's just question of expense.

Combined Army has three armies with an anticipated fourth: Shasvastii , Morats, general Combined and the Enhanced Intelligence (the one in the works). The main thing they have in common is that they either don't care about losing a Lt. or it's extremely difficult to. I'm guessing you're interested in the Morats, they have even less fancy tricks then Steel Phalanx, everything is out in the open and the only surprise is whether or not you took an AD unit. Basically they brute force their way through and just ignore certain state effects like being in Retreat or Loss of Lt. Hacking is entirely geared towards offense and their infiltrators don't even have Camo, they're just heavily armed. They have a lot of templates like mines, smoke, chain and fire and ways to obtain very cheap orders.

I would grab the pdf for the updated units, as your lists will change a little from what you posted. Things got cheaper all around. Not by a ton but a few points.

I own Aleph and Morats myself so I can speak to them. The Tohaa look cool but they dont appeal to me, and the fact that fire murders them so easily keeps me away from them.

I have nearly every Aleph model and would suggest buying Basic Aleph first then going into some SP. Buy a few heroes if you want some greek theme to your base aleph army. They are tons of fun to play, great stats and abilities, but as mentioned they do cost a lot of points. I also play basic because of how good remotes are. 1 SWC and what 26 pts for a total reaction HMG?! And also you can buff it with your Deva hacker, who has WIP 15 to give that total reaction Marksmanship LvL 2. I also like Greek Mythos in general so thats what made me get Aleph

I just started my morats ive had sitting around for awhile, so im no expert. What I have come to see though is that they are sci fi hulk smash army. Take pissed off apes, stick them in power armor and give em a gun (or big guns). They are sneaky or have some master plan but they do excel at bringing big weapons and brute forcing what they need to do.

Whatever army you pick, I would get the remotes box (Well except for Tohaa) for the army. It only comes with one actual HMG option but many lists can use two so we proxy the other as having a HMG. And really if someone doesent have a model and wants to try before buying they proxy that also. So to test what you like if you have other models from games you guys do a proxy game and see

So I'm probably gunna get Both Tohaa and Combined army starters to play them both. Not gunna get Aleph because all I really liked was the robots, but I really like the looks of all Tohaa and combined

For first buys what do you guys suggest?

Just a point, Tohaa now have more units without Fireteam Tohaa than units with it (only just - 17 units, 8 have it), thanks to a lot of new releases adding to the already decent pool of solo units. You can build quite a good list without a single linked team if you wanted to. Those solo units add a lot to your list - TO camo, AD, sapper, viral snipers, nanoscreens, neurocinetic, smart missile launchers, holo projectors, superjump, etc. Many of those on the same models, like sapper and viral sniper and holo projectors and super jump, creating some pretty powerful solo units.

The idea of only building Tohaa lists around triads is missing a hell of a lot of good stuff they can field these days.

I'm going to start with two boxes I think of Tohaa, then two of Morat next. I'm thinking of getting the Tohaa starter box and the diplomatic delegate kit. That would make me on triad team, and enough variety of units to cover my bases. Would that be a good start?

I'm still not sold on the diplomatic delegate. Sure, it's a super cheap specialist, but it takes up a precious combat group slot. It is, to me, more of a Nasmat type situation where you plonk it in if you have the room and points, not plan around it.

Depending on your budget, I'd recommend a second box with the starter. Most likely the Makaul box or the Kamael box. The Makaul box will give you, well, Makaul, which are pretty good units to throw in triads. The Kamael box gives you a few cheaper special weapons to sprinkle into triads.

If your budget isn't that big and the second purchase was planned to be a blister, I'd recommend a few. Either of the Gao Tarsos, Gao Rael, or Kotail blisters, Sakiel Spitfire, Clipsos Sniper or the Nikaul sniper are all good individual units to expand on the starter for different reasons.

Don't remind me.12" moving, Burst 4, 0 SWC holoprojector L2s are ridiculous.

For Combined the Ikadron/Imetron blister and the Med-Tech Obsidon. If you want to stick to pure EI Skiavoros or Charontid HMG. If you want to splash Shasvastii Shrouded and/or Speculo Killer. If you want Morats, Daturazi Witch Soldier box.
