As these guys have just gone to retail and the price looks very fair (especially compared to other Malifaux stuff) I am looking at grabbing a box or two to provide some more variety in my crews, or to use as generic baddies if I'm running solo. I'm finding it hard to find any real ideas on just how variable and decent the minis are, so I turn to Dakka; Anyone got any pictures of these guys assembled and/or painted?

Any replies or thoughts appreciated!

Do you mean the multi-part miniatures that are to be used for TtB?

Yep, those are the ones. I was wondering if any KS backers had got around to building theirs.

Yeah, I have looked there, but that's only a couple of shots. Still appreciated, but I am just trying to find as many examples as possible before buying, and Google isn't really coming up with much.

Got a couple I worked on over here

and a few more unpainted that I'll try to get around to posting

They require a fair amount of greenstuffing to not get them in some static poses, but they've got some nice parts. Depends on what you want them for. "multipose" is a bit of a misnomer, but they do have some decent options.

Thanks, that's handy. I'd be very interested in seeing your unpainted ones if you do photograph them.

Do you think that a single box (probably the male one) would give me enough to build 4-5 guys that could be used as guards/mercs, and the rest for some more unique stuff?

Sure, and I'll try to get those posted soon.

Yeah, the male sprue's a little better due to scale issues with the female one (unless they fixed that). The only problem I have with the male sprue is that I've had trouble with the foot bits (the ankles seem hard to get natural)

To be fair this is always the problem with multiple pose plastics. The need to made the arms compatible with any leg and torso combination makes it very hard to have and dynamism in the poses. Multi pose basically means multi options.

...except they're not very compatible.

examples:
-the trenchcoat male torso only fits 2 heads and 2 pairs of arms
-the wife beater male torso only fits 1 head
-there are 2 other general head types, which only fit one torso type (difference between "V" collar and "U" collar, since the necks are sculpted to the heads rather than torsos
-the female robotic leg only fits one of the 4 types of torsos
-the mix of sleeveless and sleeved arms (particularly on the female side) mean that you don't have a ton of actual options for arm-torso pairings

That's... kind of terrible. The whole point to doing these sorts of kits is to let people combined all sorts of arm, head, body and leg combinations. If there's only a couple of preset combinations and you need heavy greenstuffing to just get other parts to work, it fails at its purpose of creating varied models. It's just a bunch of non-dynamic single pose models with an option or two each, and there's really no reason for the static posing.

Yeah, I don't really know why they didn't just do wrist weapon options/base of skull head options in most cases. I think it's their obsession with avoiding undercuts, since that's the only reason I can understand the collar break in particular.

The details are nice, but I don't understand the kit choices.

Anecdote time: My wife was excited to break in and make a character for a new campaign, but every time she tried to build her guy, we realized that "these legs don't go with this torso, and that head won't fit on it either, and these weapon arms don't match without greenstuffing". Sure, it was a more specialized torso, but it's a duster in what largely amounts to a weird west setting- IMHO it should have been one of the most universal options.

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly confident in my GS skills as far as reposing goes, I think I'll grab a set and play around a bit.

Yeah, if you've got the GS skills, they're nice to play around with, and having the flexibility to have generic model bases (particularly ones that won't get people saying "but you used a desperate merc as a base for NiƱo!" or w/e) is a boon. They're just not what they could have been.
