So I have the codex. Right in front of my nose. Possibly too close to my nose but such are the trials that this book must endure. So let me know what you guys want to know. I will not be uploading any images (those are quite easy to find online pretty much anywhere anyhow) and I need to check with a mod but I'm pretty sure that I can't post full statlines. Yep I can't. But I can answer your burning questions like, "are wraiths REALLY T5? For real GW?!" Yes, yes they are. In any case, many of those have been released already in many other locations. So fire away! What questions do you guys have?

The only request that I would make is that you guys take a look around if you haven't already, as there are SO many leaks everywhere (I think I probably saw 90 percent of the relevant codex pages before I picked it up) and please try to read through the other questions in the event that it has already been asked and answered in this very forum.

Finally, some things that were new to me (or cleared up):

1) Canoptek Harvest is one and only one spyder

2) There is indeed a second "technoarcha" list under the wargear section that clarifies what models that are allowed to take "technoarcha" items may actually take. It's only MSS, Phylactery, Res Orb and Phase Shifter. No dispersion shield :( not surprised but a guy can dream haha

3) Things that are no-no's for Crypteks that sort of suprised me: Res Orb, Voidreaper, Orb of Eternity. So much for cheap HQs to make troops basically unkillable. But I guess there's still the solar staff for that

4) Rumored costs for the warscythe are indeed true (2 guardsmen more than last edition)

5) Something that I didn't know about the Monolith is that the gate works not just for deep striking but it can also serve as an entrance for other units on the table for you already. Kind of a nifty trick that I don't think existed previously. Sadly not the case for the obelisk (because, you know, we needed more reasons to field one) and it is a one way door. But hey I'll take it

5) Just to clear up how the Decurion Detachment works, as it did seem pretty complicated to me:

This detachment is essentially a group of formations, each of which have their own command benefits. Normally, you could not have a formation that is also part of a detachment - it is its own formation and thus not part of any detachment. However, in this case, each formation will also be part of the Decurion detachment, gaining the command benefits for the Decurion detachment as well as whatever benefits/special rules the formation itself gives. Also worth noting that due to the sheer number of formations now available through this book, I don't doubt that we'll be seeing a lot of random necron bits in other armies. Because why not? Forge that convoluted narrative!

First off, let me say thank you for sharing with us.

Is the Royal Court a formation available on it's own, or is it only part of the Larger Decurion Detachment ?

Are Wraith's really T5? For real GW?

Haha just ignore that...

Few questions:

1) Are all the Harbingers still there from the previous Codex?
2) Does it look like you can take a Decurion formation outside of the Decurion itself and still be Battle-forged (eg, CAD+ Canoptek Harvest)?

Getting my Codex tomorrow but thanks for sharing any info/answering questions

Cheers for this man. Can the royal court be broken up and put in to separate units?? And are there any restrictions on the compulsory formation in the decurion ie. Can units take night scythes, start off the board etc

Pretty much like Feen No Pain. So much so, that if you have both Reanimantion Protocols and Feel No Pain you can only choose to use one.

Default is 5+, 6+ vs anything that Instakills. Crytpteks and some formations can add +1 to Reanimation Protocols, but it can never be better than 4+

Right I have a few questions regarding formations.

1. Are there restrictions on how you deploy?? I ask because I remember reading somewhere that formations have to deploy at the same time, within a certain distance of each other. That may have been apoc though.

2. The royal court formation. Is that a unit of characters?? Or can they be broken up and attached to other units? It seems a bit silly that you could only take Imotekh in a decurion with a unit of other characters, but this is GW

And good god, someone messed up with the wraiths. How they justified that points cost I will never fathom

1. Certain formations have restrictions for the command benefits of the formation, but no there are no restrictions on movement overall. This can be your entire army, remember. The benefit of the Reclamation legion (which may be a large part of said army) requires you to be within 12" of the overlord to gain the re-roll RP results of one for example; however the whole army does not have any restrictions on its command benefits

2. That is an excellent question. I'm not able to answer that with 100% certainty because the formation page lists the models and the ranges you can take them in (for example, 1-3 lords) but does not specify that they are a single unit. As they are all independent characters, I don't see why you can't break these up any way that you like. There are no restrictions listed, so I am leaning towards yes. I believe you are able to distribute them however you want, even with multiple crypteks in the same unit for example. Nothing says that you can't do this, and that is how the rules work for ICs, so yes I don't see why that should be disallowed

Own formation. My Tyranids could take it (but would never. They might associate with wraiths, but not lords )

Is there an FOC for a standard CAD or is there only the Decurion formation in the Necron codex?

What is the flat cost of an Overlord now?

Does the Stalker's special ability in the Judicator Battalion work for all Necron units or only the models in that Formation?

Can the Royal Court be taken as its own formation?

Thanks!

1) No, no harbingers. Sad that all of that flavor got lost (but I mean, what were we really expecting after the Grey Knights codex got dropped?) There is still an Eldritch lance on one named character....I forget who...Ah it's Mr. Szeras. Interestingly, he can count as a cryptek for the purposes of a royal court

2) Absolutely. They are all their own formations.

It is essentially a FNP that cannot be denied except by "removed from play" or str D. Instant death modifies it one higher (ie a 4+ RP would become a 5+). Interestingly they are also taken after each wound now. And you don't "go away and try to get back up" getting rid of that gamey blocking with consolidation, etc

Yes as far as I can tell they can be broken up however you want.

The only restriction is that you have to have at least 3 heavy destroyers in each unit for the destroyer cult. Otherwise they are all identical to the codex versions, just with extra perks.

I can answer that for you. Every army can take the CAD. The Decurion is just our unique detachment

They really glance over it, but you can have a standard Necron CAD FOC or standard allied FOC as per the BRB, with those and only those command benefits (Obsec and re-roll warlord). Tbh, not very user friendly, but I can see that they're really trying to sell you on using the Decurion detachment (and probably think that we know by now that any army can use the standard FOC). It's never really been an issue before but I think there was some concern after people saw this new formations inside of formations inside of a detachment thing.

The only real difference that they make is that if your warlord is part of the Decurion, then the whole Decurion detachment must be your primary detachment. Probably what I would have assumed anyway but it's nice that they state it outright.

luke1705- thanks for doing this.

Theres very few bits I'm missing (the rest can be found by links on natftka btw guys). Heres what I'd like to know:

1. what is the exact wording on melee/ranged weapon selection? (can ICs take multiple weapons including relics?)

2. cost and list of melee weapons and ranged weapons? Any restrictions by character?

Bordering on completely useless to me then.

Wraiths are already very high powered, so I'm not interested in buffing them further. If I'm taking a Canoptek formation it's because I like the Canoptek models, own a lot of them and want to field a bunch of them at once. And one Spyder is a barely useful unit that can't competently Scarab Farm or do any of the jobs I take Spyders for.
