Subject: Dust Tactics Legal action from Dust studios against Battlefront?

My LGS was a veritable hub for Warfare. Big stock, tons and tons of players. Those days are long-gone. Most places are liquidating their stocks and I can see why. I haven't been in the Dust scene for a while, but out of morbid curiosity I took at look and whew... what a mess!
Glad I bugged out when I did. Seems my "doom and gloom" prospects weren't far off the mark.
A shame too, because Warfare was such a great game.

By far the worst thing to befall Dust was when Paolo moved to Battlefront. I can't help but wonder at what could have been, especially with X-Wing being such a big success. Poor Dust Warfare. Fans can only do so much to make a game work and Paolo hates it, so I can imagine that is just over and done now too.
A shame.

Having worked with the FFG team on Dust Warfare, I know how committed they were to a tight, balanced game and how responsive they were with questions (rules, especially). Battlefront never, ever seemed to project the same level of care. Plus, they shoved out Battlefield option to undercut Warfare (allegedly over licensing stuff or some such).
I agree though, I loved Dust. I sank hundreds of hours into it, a website for it, and playtesting and whatnot. It was brilliant! Then Paolo, who announced his dislike of Warfare, took it with him to BF where things just fell apart. Public playtest, bad communication, Kickstarter fiasco, and now they basically pushed Warfare off onto fans. All very disappointing.

Yup. Dumped it all a long while ago. Same time I shut down Dust-War. Just had to call it quits and, at the time, was denounced for my "doom and gloom" predictions. I hate being right. :/

You are right, not dying. Dead. Any future it has will be 100% reliant on the fans to forgive this Kickstarter fiasco and pretending Paolo didn't kill off the most popular variation of Dust (Warfare). Not likely.

Shotgun wrote:"early next week" has not passed.
BF statement was issued on May 10. "Early next week" would put it sometime in the May 17-20 time frame, and not in the may 11-13 time frame.
Even righteous indignation needs to learn to read for content.
To be fair, a lot of these people have been waiting just shy of a year for their stuff to be fulfilled. Soooo... context is great, but I can see their frustration in an announcement announcing an announcement and not just answers.

Also -- What again is Ducan's connection to BF? He work for them? Contracts for them? What?
From what I recall hearing, he does some translation work freelance or something and has worked with Paolo and/or FFG at some point on Dust. Not sure what else.
As for the statement... how hard was that to issue? Sheesh. Backers deserved that at least 6+ months ago. This whole thing has been like pulling teeth from both sides.
Even if they deliver now, I feel like the damage is done to the brand. Only a few diehards will drag Dust out, keeping it alive like people did with AT-43.

I really want to jump on this but...will it be a game that will be supported. I got over $200 in the cart, but hesitating.
Tactics will be a niche game with some Dust Studio support. Battlefield will probably wither and die as DS and Battlefront split. Warfare is dead already...
So... yea. Buyer beware?

Yeah sorry I can't even begin to think how this will continue. Seems like another nail is being driven home in that coffin shaped shipping container labeled DUST.
Ashes to ashes DUST to the clearance bins.
Seriously. Losing one of the top U.S. webstores (assuming that's what's happening) is bad news, and pretty much kills any chance of the game going/staying mainstream.
War Store and Miniature Market down. Ouch.

Tragic. So, does Paolo own the Warfare rules? What happens to those? I would love to see them become an open ruleset or applied to a better supported game (which is basically any game at this point).

I would love to see them become an open ruleset or applied to a better supported game (which is basically any game at this point). The warfare rules have been licensed to a fan to continue producing warfare rules . I have no idea at this point what that means to the future of warfare. To be honest I think that warfare is dead possibly tactics also. He released the Warfare cards for the new upcoming starter sets already over on Facebook, so the future looks reasonably promising. Yea... except it is a fan. And one in a notoriously toxic community, no less. Not sure how "promising" it looks that a fan is in charge of rules and not a company that can you know... support the game. I get that the models are coming out, but rules supplements, real printed cards, and stuff. I dunno, I was calling the end of Dust Warfare years ago now, when Paolo pulled the plug on FFG and went cuddling up to BF. That, to me, was the deathknell. Made only worse by the fact Paolo hated Warfare, thus dooming it when BF took over too (and BF didn't seem to care either, as clearly demonstrated by them). And now these are going to be unassembled models? Or is that a convention thing? Half the selling point was the open-and-play concept, like the vastly more popular X-Wing. Now without that, why would people bother? I mean, having to sift through potentially what... 4 versions of Tactics, Battlefield and now two versions of Warfare? Yikes. And also, on Facebook? Really? Can't be hassled to start a website for Dust Warfare? I mean... I know I had a website for it without even being handed the rules like that. Might look a lot better if they had a real website. Just sayin'.
