Hi all,

Me and a friend both recently purchased the x wing core set each. After a few games we both decided which side we wanted to play going forward.

I chose Rebels.

We'll soon start to move onto bigger 100pt games. I'm of course looking at getting more ships but I'm struggling to know what the next best ships to purchase are.

I'm not trying to build a list which is no fun to play against but I'd obviously like it to be able hold it's own. Any suggestions on the ships I should be looking at?

I'm thinking about getting a couple of Y-wings and an A-wing and throw in the X-wing from my starter set. Is this a good starting point?

B-Wings are generally considered pretty good.

100 points
Two Dagger Squadron B-Wings (with Advanced Sensors)
Two Red Squadron X-Wings

- Makes for a pretty good squadron to cut your teeth on.

The nice thing about X-Wing is that there really aren't many lists that aren't fun to play against. Balance is nice that way.

From the core sets, you're pretty good picking up any big ship or 2 small ships. 2 Bs are a solid suggestion, or perhaps a YT-1300 for a mobile turreted ship, or Rebel Aces for some tricked out ships, or anything really. Try stuff out, proxy, play some vassal, and see which ships you like to fly.

I would consider going with the small base ships first (ABEXYZ even a HWK). Learn to fly them as a squadron, how far apart you need to be and how to keep them from crashing into each other. Learn to fly around and thru asteroids and how to support each other.
Have your buddy do the same with his Empire.
Get to the point where you can put a ship anywhere on the board, your buddy can pick any movement template, and you can point to where the ship will be if you made that move.

Once your comfortable with flying tight formations, then add in a large base, YT1300, 2400, SLave1, Decimator, etc...

Too often a new person jumps strait to the latest big ship net list (which today would be Decivader and Echo or Super Dash/Fat Han + Corran Horn) then get their clock cleaned because they skipped the part about learning to fly.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

The cheapest thing to do would be to pick up an X-Wing expansion and play a few games with High-PS named x-wing pilots till you get bored and want to add in another small base rebel ship(I'd probably go B,E,Z,Y,HWk,A in preferential order).

The optimal thing to do would be pick up a yt-1300 or a yt-2400 as learning to fly the large base rebel turret ships is key to playing the game on a more competitive level, even if its just to give you the experience to predict and counter when you fly what you want to fly.
