Okay so I don't know about you guys but I watch a bit of competative batreps on YouTube from a channel called SG tactics. They play very competative games and lists for those of you who don't know. Anyways I am getting into death cents mostly because I already have a SM and a little SW drop pod list and centurions buffed with re rolls, invised, and/or ignores cover is amazing! This here is one list that I've come across that strikes a few questions though:

Rune Priest: Psyker (Mastery Level 2) 85

10 Grey Hunters: 2× meltagun; Wolf Guard Pack Leader (combi-melta; melta bombs) 185
• Drop Pod 35

As you can see there's 2 death cents in there and 7 pods in total. This this is very powerful list but begs the question; what about AA? Yes with prescience, death cents can easily scrap flyers but what about a void raven bomber or even a storm raven? Those things can rip through heavy infantry like centurions. I've tried to look at some batreps with flyers that actually put out some decent ap2 but i haven't seen anything. What do you guys think? Just suck it up or maybe take out something and replace it with a stormfang or storm raven?

I think the idea is just to ignore enemy air units. Even the most spammy flying circus lists will have a hard time chewing through 50 Power Armor dudes before you've racked up enough points from map control to win the game.

An alternative to taking AA units would be to take the Red Hunters Chapter tactics on your cent detachment. This would allow them to gain skyfire on a # of unit(s) depending on the turn # (Mnemonic Redaction Protocols is the CT ability name). So turn 3 when it become essential for you to have an AA strategy you can use the Mnemonic Redaction Protocols to give each cent unit skyfire and your SM libby skyfire (attach him to melta grey hunters if you need).

BTW is this a double CAD or a SW special detachment + CAD? If this is double CAD then you will get your world rocked if you don't bring a comprehensive AA strategy as there are 3 abusive flyer armies in double CAD world; ie IG vultures, CSM fire raptor spam, and the flyrant spam top dog. Any of those armies can remove 50 SM bodies shockingly fast.

Also do you play some score as you go or score at end missions (or hybrid like BAO)? Score as you go needs a lot less AA than score at end missions.

This is a SW primary CAD with an allied sentinals of terra SM's. I can see that people would and do ignore enemy air units but it's a stormfang or any ap3-2 things that can just rip through that list. I don't play any competitive rules or game systems as this is just an intriguing list that I found and then I wondered why they didn't bother about anti air.

Looks allied to me. I assume sentinels over better chapter tactics simply because they can take cents in elite and heavy..

The list is "all in" on the alpha strike. No room for flyers since that would detract further from turn 1 strike and board presence. It's a trade off. The list will crush those that aren't prepared for it. It wants to inflict immediate serious casualties and ride the advantage to victory on the backs of 60 ish meq.

That said I think it could be just as strong with some changes to fit your local environment. I tend to look at tacs and to a lesser extent even GHs as compulsory only. It's the pod count and flexibility your really after. Past the min requirements there's more killy options. But that's just me.

For example a 3rd FA pod instead of dedicated brings no downside but adds flexibility. The list could cut the tac squads in half without losing much. That would pay for 2/3 of a relic fire raptor.

In place of a GH squad you could run combi weapon/ss tdawg's with 1 cf + arjac. Similar cost better anti tank/mc and better threat and counter assault after impact.

Just a few ideas. Point is the list is solid, for what the guy designed it for, but there's always room for innovation.
